Junos Request Stakes-G2
APOLLITICAL SCOUT
by Michael Compton
Judging by her fast victory in the $103,300 Junos Request Stakes-G2 at Remington Park on June 2, Apollitical Scout appears to be rounding back into her best form.
Last year’s winner of the Remington
Park Derby-RG3 during a 3-race win streak, Apollitical Scout finished second in her previous outing, beaten by just a head, before blazing to an impressive victory in the Junos Request Stakes.
Ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo, Apollitical Scout broke sharply mid-pack
and dueled with Hardtoget for early supremacy in the 400-yard contest. Those two streaked through the lane together, with Apollitical Scout proving best by just
a neck at the finish. She stopped the timer in a

SAUL
by Danny Camp
Saul notched his first stakes victory in
the $120,652 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity-RG3 at SunRay Park on May 13.
He won his first official start on April 27 in the New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity trials by 1 1/4-lengths for the second fastest qualifying time. Then, he won the finals by the same margin. Saul blew the competition away in both of his starts. In the finals, the gray gelding stepped away from the 4-post under
regular rider Adrian Ramos
in spectacular fashion, getting a 1/2-length lead by the first call and covering the 350 yards wire-to-wire in :17.330 for a career-high 96 speed index.
The undefeated gelding earned first place money
of $56,706 for owners Jill Giles, Megan Hourigan and Cory Taylor and trainer Wes Giles, boosting his total earnings to $58,506.
record of :19.101 established in 2011. The filly earned a 105 speed index while Hardtoget earned a 104 for the second place finish.
The win marked the third stakes score for Apollitical Scout, who also annexed the 2016 Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational. Her most lucrative win came in the Remington Park Derby-RG3 where she banked $122,160. Her record now stands at 16-5(3)-6(2)-1(1) and the $63,030
winner’s share of this purse boosted her total earnings to $332,760 for owner Paragon Farms LLC and trainer James Padgett II.
Dan and Louise Jones bred Apollitical Scout out of 2006 Lazy E Futurity-RG2 final- ist Swingin Cartel. She has produced 100% winners from four starters, including 2015 O B Cockerell Handicap win- ner One Famous Swinger and Swingit Lika Man, runner-up
in the 2015 Mile High Futurity. Apollitical Scout is her second stakes winner and top money earner. Runner up Hardtoget (Foose-Tinys Corona
Queen) just missed under James Flores. The 5-year-old mare races for Louis A. “Trey” Malecheck III and is trained by Amanda Tongay.
One Sweet Racy (One Sweet Jess-Miss Racy Vike) dueled throughout under G.R. Carter and finished a close third for owner Johnny Trotter and trainer Michael Joiner.
Dashnunder Afullmoon (Heza Fast Dash-Full Moon Dasher), As And Js (Apollitical Jess-Adolph Tres Knockout), Mojo Perry (Mr Jess Perry-
Jump Down First), HR Chatter Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Excessive Chatter TB), JC Wild Rose (Apollitical Jess-Oh Cherokee Rose), VF Wheely Cute (Ivory James-Wheely Quick) and Mamasito Magic (Pappasito-Ms Optical Illusion) completed the order of finish.
When asked about the future Jill said, “We are just riding the wave for now. We are think- ing about Albuquerque and Ruidoso.”
Jess Versiontino (Winners Version-Cmon Jesses Girl) was 2nd under Fredrico Martinez for Victor Orona & trainer Guadalupe Munoz. RF Big Daddys Girl (Big Daddy Cartel-Rfjabbasair) and Jose Enriquez were 3rd for Frank Lujan
& trainer Rodolfo G. Valles. Followed by JC Stolywood (Woodbridge-Fly Stolis Chick) EB Rapidito (Hearts Miracle-Muy Rapido), Eyesa Flashy Jess (Jesse James Jr-Perfect Moonflash), Meleros Big 440 (Big Daddy Cartel-Jessica Cheyenne 440), Jess Diggin (Jess A Chicks- Gold Diggin Reason), Queenofsaturdaynite (Saturday Nite Romeo-Queen Lavita) & Jade (Big Daddy Cartel-Woodbridge Duchess).
Jill Giles bred Saul out of multiple graded stakes placed winner & New Track Record setter The Rainbow Rea, who was named
an AQHA Superior Racehorse in 2000. She has produced 9 starters, including Reas Fast Man, who was 2nd in the 2007 Four Corners F.-G3 and 3rd in the 2008 Animas H. Saul is her first stakes winner & top earner.
“He is a nice horse,” said Jill. “He came back bouncy after both of his races.
He was a little naughty in the paddock before the trials. In the finals we had to wait a long time, but he stood quietly. When we walked up on the track, he got his bounce back. He’s sweet around the barn area and gallops like a champ. We raised this horse. And we would have lost him if not for our daughter-in-law. She saved him. The motto concerning his name is ‘Saul good now’.”
