Jodys Glory Classic
WHATTA KO
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
Only 14 fillies and colts were enrolled in this stakes race that is reserved for two- year-old runners. A couple of qualifying races
were enough to get the finalists, who gathered at the track on Aug. 12 to determine the win- ner and to earn the main part of the $499,500 pesos ($26,341 US approximately) gathered for this race.
It was The Deadline and VF Great Domination that topped the list of qualifying times with :17.255 and :17.275, respectively. Far from them was Whatta KO, with a time of :17.626 in what was her third first place finish by winning her qualifying heat in a close race with Eyell Cartel.
The rain was present from the start of the races and the track remained puddled through- out the day.
The start was good for everyone, only Whatta KO (#4) drifted towards the inner rail, bothering Angels Dashin Folly (#3). In this way, Whatta KO took the lead of the group from the initial yards, commanded by rider José Manuel Cisneros. However, Eyell Cartel (#9) again put her to the test along with The Deadline (#8) who, on the right side of the
track, pushed in a threaten- ing manner, but Whatta KO dominated them by a head at the goal to achieve her victory.
She traveled the 350 yards in :17.37 for a speed index of 93, remaining unbeaten in her two appearances.
Whatta KO was raised
in the United States by Erik
Flores, being the daughter
of Corona Cartel and out of
Whatta Knockout, by Walk Thru Fire. The filly is owned by the Cuadra Nuevo Silva, located in Soledad de Doblado, Veracruz, which is in the charge of veterinarians Homero and Gonzalo Hertz Marín, who received recognitions from the Mexican Association of Horse Breeders and Horsemen Quarter Mile, AC. For this triumph, Whatta KO added $327,420 pesos (approxi- mately $17,267 US) to her bank account, also adding points for trainer Fidel Rosado Guevara, who saddled her in her two outings.
Repeating the fight they fought in the first of the race, the filly Eyell Cartel (Teller
Cartel-Eyell Fool Ya) placed second a head behind the winner and under the command of Juan Carlos Garcia. La Presita LLC is
the breeder, she is owned by Rancho Amecameca and was saddled by Marlon Abraham Quezada Colunga.
Third by difference of a nose was the colt The Deadline (Favorite Cartel- Flying Regal) led by Mario
Alberto López Marmolejo for owner Cuadra Los Arrallanes and trainer Pedro Ríos Torres.
The other finalists arrived in the following order: VF Great Domination (Dominyun– Next Great Love), Moon Flash Corona (First Moonflash–Corona LD), I Am An Illusion (One Dashin Eagle–Dash Master Miss),
Here Comes Da Money (Dominyun–Momos Money), Careless Charmer (PYC Paint Your Wagon–Watch Linda Ballet), Through The Flames (Walk Thru Fire–Awholelotofattitude) and Angels Dashin Folly (One Dashin Eagle–Mi Angela).
