AMCM Prize Championship
LITELY POLITICAL
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
This race arose before the recent reorgani- zation of the Challenge Program of the AQHA, which implied the disappearance
of the sponsorship to the Bank Of America Champion Challenge of Mexico. To keep
open the competition option for individuals
of three years and older who would eventu- ally participate in the prestigious race, the Mexican Association of Horse Breeders and Horsemen Cuarto de Milla, A.C., established the race reported here, where eight participants paid $40,000 pesos (approximately $2,080 US) to make up the main part of the purse of $498,000 pesos (approximately $25,892 US) to be disputed at 440 yards.
The appointment on the track was on Aug. 19, with some outstanding runners that marked the level of the race due to their records. Such was the case with Chicks Love Curls, Exquisite Stride, Tempting Splash Dash, and the filly Litely Political, the only female contender.
At the start, Chicks Love Curls (#7) stumbled and Aberdonian (#5) leaned on Moon Racer Napoleon (#6), who did the same on the already hindered Chicks Love Curls, nullifying their opportunity to finish the race as expected. The competition continued its long route, with Litely Political (#8) taking the right side of the track in a close duel with Tempting Splash Dash, while near the inside track it was a fight between Exquisite Stride (#3) and Empire QH (#2).
This quartet of runners
was the group that finally
headed toward the finish
line with Litely Political
in front by a neck over
Exquisite Stride, who man-
aged to stick his nose in
front of Tempting Splash
Dash. The winner traveled
the quarter mile in :21.10
seconds over a fast track for
a speed index of 108, the
highest achieved in her 10
starts, of which she has had four first places, including the Junior Championship in 2016 and the Chirina Glorys Classic in the current season, and as of now under the leadership of José Manuel Rosado.
Bred in the United States and daughter of Apollitical Jess out of Strobe Lite (by Stoli), the four-year-old filly is owned by Cuadra San Judas Tadeo, located in Ocozocuautla, State of Chiapas, from where she travels 12 hours by road to the Hipodromo de las Americas under the care of Efraín Morales, aka Pin, his on-site coach.
For this success she added to her earnings $298,800 pesos (approximately $15,535 US), which is approaching 1.5 million pesos in her career. She also added points for trainer Sergio Flores, who saddled her for this commitment.
On July 8, Litely Political also faced Exquisite Stride in the Kisses To Yawl Handicap, beating the horse equally
by a neck’s difference with a time of :21.12 (SI 107) in very similar fashion to the :21.10 (SI 108) that the filly needed to dominate and take this race. With this victory, she consolidates as the best adult runner at the
present in the Hipódromo de las Américas. Exquisite Stride (Carters Cartel-Tinys Lil
Jess) captured second place under the com- mand of José Ángel Ambrosio for owner Cuadra Cartas Blancas and breeder Oscar Ismael Navarrete González.
In third place was Tempting Splash Dash (Tempting Dash-Thebabeisback) supported by Yair Daniel Báez Soto. Owned by Cuadra Zamarrero, the four year old was saddled by Antonio de La Rosa López.
Also participated: Imperio QH (One Dashing Eagle–Perfecter), Chicks Love Curls (Spit Curl Jess–First Prize Chic), Aberdonian (PYC Paint Your Wagon–Strawfly Sting), Moon Racer Napoleon (Bigtime Favorite– Fun Timin Gal) and Cartini (Carters Cartel – Diamondsinmymartini).
