ASPCA Offering Grants To Support Law Enforcement Response To Equine Cruelty
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) announced that it is offering $75,000 in grant funds to support effective law enforcement response to equine cruelty cases in the states of Florida and Wisconsin. The initiative will help with resources, training and exper-
tise to support rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of equines from situations of cruelty and neglect.
Texas Youth Scholarship
The Texas Quarter Horse Foundation supports scholarships that help to fur- ther the education of the industry’s future
leaders, with recipients selected by Foundation Committee members based on academic records. Applications are due by Dec. 1, 2018. Eligibility of applicants is based on the indi- vidual criteria and requirements provided for each scholarship. For more information, visit TQHA.com/youth/scholarships.
Col. Earl Lilley Passes Away
AQHA Director Emeritus Col. Earl A.
Lilley, of Idaho, passed away on Aug. 28 at the age of 97. Lilley, who grew up during the Great Depression, was introduced to horses while driving work teams in Pennsylvania. He served
in the Air Force for 28 years, including during World War II, and was a pilot instructor. Lilley received the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroic bravery and retired as a Colonel in the Air Force. Lilley was a longtime Quarter Horse breeder and owner, racing such horses as stakes-placed Lady Iron, who set a 350-yard New Track Record at Humbolt County Fair. He served as president
of the Idaho Horse Council, was an active member of the AQHA Racing Committee and
attended the AQHA Convention for 50 years. In 2008, Lilley was honored with the Merle Wood Humanitarian award from the American Quarter Horse Association. Lilley was preceded by his wife of nearly 60 years, Lola. An active member and president of the Gem County Senior Center, Lilley met and then married Jo Fisk in 2014. He is survived by his children, numerous grandchil- dren and great grandchildren, as well as by many other family members and friends.
