SHOCKINGLYFAMOUS
Sby Danny Camp
ix horses were brave enough to enter the starting
gates for the running of the $53,250 Jesse Yoakum Memorial 870 stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on June 18.
When it was all said and done, it was Shockinglyfamous that shocked the other runners.
The colt broke from the 5-post in third under Benito Baca and they cruised around the turn, 1/2-length to the good at the top of the stretch. Then the running really started, they gained 3-lengths on the nearest rival by mid stretch. With Benito sitting calmy, they finished with an impressive 5 1/4-length victory.
Trained by Kasey Willis, who co-owns the horse with Stone Chase Stables LLC, the team completed the 870 yards in :45.592, while posting a 99 speed index. The $31,950 winner’s share of the purse boosted Shockinglyfamous’ total lifetime earnings to $252,940.
A veteran in stakes races, Shockinglyfamous has won eight races, four of which were stakes events. In addition to the Jesse Yoakum Memorial, the colt has also won the SLM Big Daddy Stakes-G3, Altoona Derby, and Rillito Park Championship Challenge.
Clarence Scharbauer III bred Shockinglyfamous out of TTA Sales Futurity winner Shocktime TB. She has produced 100% stakes winners from four starters. Shockinglyfamous is her top money earner.
Bullard Farms’ The Kings Horse (Class King-Fleeta Dif TB) had the inside position but was clearly second best on this day. The Lewis Jordan trainee had Claudio Aguilar aboard. Flyin Charlie (Flyin Color-Bokaroni) was able to save enough ground to finish third under Donell Blake for owner/trainer John Boegner.
SLP Mighty High (Mighty Invictus-Red Ruby Slippers), Im Jess Dashing (Dash Master Jess-Im Not Hillary) and One Mighty Eagle (One Famous Eagle- Kates Dynasty) completed the order of finish. Easter Fools was scratched.

The sorrel filly maintained a clear advantage through the lane and rolled to the finish unchallenged to record a measured 1/2-length tally over Leading Senorita.
Just A Perfect Grace covered the distance in :17.028, earning a 91 speed index in her first black- type win.
