wo-time Champion Had To Be Ivory won her 11th
stakes event in the $23,618 Picov Maturity at Ajax Downs on June 1.
Ridden by Josh Scott, Had To Be Ivory broke in 2nd from the 7-post, but quickly began gaining ground. By the time they reached the halfway mark, they were 3/4-lengths in the lead, crossing the wire by the same margin.
Trained by Bryn Robertson, Had To Be Ivory collected the $9,543 winner’s share of the purse for owners/breeders Carol and Jaime Robertson, boosting his total earnings to $226,978.
Raced exclusively in Canada, the gelding has won or placed in 23 of his 24 starts, with 13 of those races being stakes events. In 2019, he set a New Track Record for 400 yards at Ajax Downs, and in 2021 went on to break his own record and set yet another New Track Record.
The Robertson’s bred Had To Be Ivory out of Maple Leaf Derby winner Had To Be Fandango. She has produced three winners from four starters, including stakes placed Had To Be Relentless and Five Bar Fandango. Had To Be Ivory is her first stakes winner.
Multiple stakes winner Carneros (Prospect To The Top-Cakebread And Thou) had won his last three in a row and just missed this time under Brian Bell. Owned by Kwiecien Milena, the gelding is trained by Jason Pascoe. Countrys Comin Bac (Country Chicks Man- Bac To Center) banked third place money for owner Ralph Pearson. The Don Reid trainee had Cassandra Jeschke handling the reins. The gelding won the 2020 Ontario Bred Maturity. Streakinlilwagon (Fast Prize Jordan-La Jollas Fortune), Maryland Magic (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Purley Un Social), Countryfried Chicken (Country Chicks Man-La Wanda), Country Boy 123 (Country Chicks Man-Very Dashin 123), Fury Dot Com (Furyofthewind-Dashin Dot Com) and Jessaprimadonna (One Sweet Jess-Favorite Primadonna) completed the order of finish.

yesa Special Gunner has won or placed in three
of his four starts as a two year old with his latest in the $104,650 Wyoming Bred Futurity at Energy Downs on June 25.
Second fastest qualifier Eyesa Special Gunner had his eyes focused on the finish line as he stepped away from the 4-post with Uriel Dominguez aboard. They got the first call and improved their position from there.
They were never headed and at the wire they were a 1/2-length in front, stopping the timer in :15.034 to earn a 111 speed index and a New Track Record besting the :15.037 set in 2021. The gelding also earned the $52,325 winner’s share, which pushed his bankroll to $55,367. His team includes breeder/owner Broken Bones Cattle Company and trainer Jessie Villegas.
Broken Bones Cattle Company bred Eyesa Special Gunner out of Aberdeen Futurity winner Streakin Camilla. She has produced five winners from eight starters, including Eyesa Special River, winner of the Sweetwater Wyoming Bred Futurity and Derby. Eyesa Special Gunner is her third takes winner and top earner.
Eyesa Special Gunner’s second dam is lightly raced Rocket Ember, who has produced two winners.
Third fastest qualifier Yo Barely A Glance (Fiftyshadezofgrey-Barely A Secret) improved her position in the finals to second. She is owned by Juanita Villegas and trained by Jessie Villegas. Luis Peralta was in the saddle. The filly won the Bucking Horse Sale Futurity Consolation at Miles City on May 21 and has a race record of 3 wins from four starts.
Gotta Have Corona D (Gotta Have Corona- Ms Makin Moves) finished third under Valente Vorrath for owner Steve Day and trainer Jessie Villegas. The gelding finished second in his June 11 trial and finished fifth in the Bucking Horse Sale Futurity at Miles City earlier this year.
Yo Morning Delite (Brindis Por Cayenne-Rs Afternoon Delite), Kcross Chilledcorona (RGR Jungle Jock-VVR Poolhall Girl), VVR My Friend Bill (Whata Corona Runner-Fleetwood Mick), Eyesa Special Moxy (Eyesa Special Slim), CD Wagon Of Secrets (CD Rockin Da Wagon-CD Victoria Secret) and Poninas (Salt Point Bay- Tanqueray Cocktail) completed the order of finish. Eye Dinozzo was scratched.

aynneoverthemoon dominated the field in
the $56,550 Wyoming Bred Derby at Energy Downs on June 18.
Ridden by jockey Shaunda Larsen, the three- year-old chestnut filly broke on top from the 2-post and was never headed. She had a 1/2-length margin at the first call and 1 1/2-lengths at the top of the stretch. She crossed the finish line for a 2-length wire-to-wire victory. They completed the 350 yards in :17.545, posting a 97 speed index.
Trained by Jess Matt, Cayenneoverthemoon secured the $28,275 winner’s share of the purse
for owner Walter Larson, which boosted her cumulative earnings to $51,462.
The filly now has a race record of 9-3(1)-2(1)- 0, which includes a second place finish in the $77,120 Rock Springs Wyoming Bred Futurity at Sweetwater Downs last year. Cayenneoverthemoon also made a wire-to-wire run in her Wyoming Bred Derby trial as the fastest qualifier.
S Bar S bred Cayenneoverthemoon out of Prairie Meadows Distaff Challenge winner Dashmetothemoon, a half-sister to Oklahoma Hi-Point Three-Year-Old Colt Bloomer Ride,
who finished third in the 2016 Evangeline Derby and Speedhorse Derby. Dashmetothemoon was a runner-up in the Sam Houston Distaff Challenge and Hill Country Cash. She has produced two winners from three starters, including Moon Dash Cartel, who finished third in the 2017 TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity-RG3.
One Handsome Dash (One Handsome Man- Cats Last Dash) and jockey Manuel Meza were second for owner/trainer Benjamin Villegas. The gelding has placed in seven of his nine starts, including a second place finish in his June 5 trial where he qualified with the third fastest time.
Moxies Dynasty (Jr Dynasty Mountain-Moxie Mamma) took third for owner Robert Fox. The Martha Maldonado trainee had Valente Vorrath in the irons. The filly was also third in her June 5 trial, qualifying with the 9th qualifying spot.
