Gillete Open Maturity
BIGG BROWN
Bby Danny Camp
igg Brown secured his second stakes win and
a New Track Record in the $42,050 Gillette Open Maturity at Energy Downs on June 19.
He broke from the 6-post under Edgar Ramirez in third. At the top of the stretch, they were a nose behind in second and proved best at the finish, crossing the wire 1/2-length in front to complete the 400 yards in :19.498 for a career best 114 speed index, besting the previous :19.766 record set in 2021.
Trained by Uriel Dominguez, Bigg Brown collected the $21,025 winner’s share of the purse for owners/breeders Dan & Kim LaPierre, which boosted his total lifetime earnings to $76,289.
No stranger to stakes races, Bigg Brown has made 16 starts, six of which were in stakes events. Last year, he won the Rock Springs Wyoming Accredited Stallion Derby and finished third in the Rock Springs Wyoming Bred Derby and Wyoming Bred Derby.
The LaPierre’s bred Bigg Brown out of unraced Purrfect Eve, who is a half-sister to Not In This Life, who finished third in the 2004 Yavapai Downs Derby-G3 and Goneforafirstdown,
who finished second in the 2002 East Distaff Challenge-G3. Bigg Brown is her first winner from three starters.
Eyesa Special Hachet (Eyesa Special Slim- Streaking Ruby Red) took advantage of a DQ, moving to second under Luis Peralta for owner Broken Bones Cattle Company & trainer Jessie Villegas. The gelding won the 2021 Rock Springs Wyoming Accredited Stallion Derby and the 2020 Rock Springs Wyoming Accredited Stallion Futurity.
Sables Dashin (FDD Dynasty-Painted Sable) took third for owners Robin Dunn, Larry Chapple & RTM Stables LLC. The Mark Hanson trainee had Jarell James aboard. The gelding won the Ice Breaker Mixed Stakes earlier this year at Pocatello Downs. He also won the 2020 Pocatello Downs Derby and 2019 Pocatello Downs
Juvenile Challenge.
Cowboyhatbygucci (Apollitical Blood-Ms Fast
First Prize) was DQ’d to 4th and was followed by Brindis Cruz (Brindis Por Cayenne-Gm Check Her Out), Cir Lady Moon (Moonin The Eagle-Cir Mark Of A Queen), Dashing Coronado (Coronado Cartel-Enticilizeur), Prit Pro (Dustin Pro-Pritzis Diamond Lil), Kay Cross Conman (Volcom-Kay Cross Kkylie) & Blazinberryberryfast (Osbaldo- Strawberryberryfast).

BEEP BEEP REV REV
Bby Michael Compton
eep Beep Rev Rev didn’t have to resort to any
kind audible noises to clear her path in the $25,000 North Star State Futurity at Canterbury Park on June 1, because the 2-year-old daughter of A Revenant was never headed and led the 300-yard test from start to finish to remain undefeated in her first two career starts.
Ridden by Edwin Escobedo, Beep Beep Rev Rev came in a bit after the start but darted right to the front to take command early. The brown filly powered away from her five rivals and scored by a length in the end as the odds-on favorite. She stopped the timer in :15.753, earning a speed index of 89.
Owned by Paul Luedemann and trained by Jason Olmstead, who swept the top three placings in the race, Beep Beep Rev Rev picked up the $13,160 winner’s share of the purse, increasing her bankroll to $24,890. She is now perfect in her career after breaking her maiden at Remington Park on May 13 in her career debut.
Bred in Minnesota by Paul and Maren Luedemann’s Summer Run Inc., Beep Beep Rev Rev is produced from the Shazoom mare Etta Betta Zoom and is a half-sister to the multiple stakes winner Beep Beep Zoom Zoom.
Runner-up Relentless Flash (Hes Relentless- Valiant Filly) and jockey Ricardo Suarez proved no match for the winner but was clearly second best for owner Tom Maher. Blu Bye U (Jess Louisiana Blue- BPS PYC Luckycharm) and jockey Luis Valenzuela finished 3rd following an awkward break. The brown filly finished fourth in a maiden event at Remington Park in her career debut on April 22.
Shes Blacks Blood (Apollitical Blood-Blacks Cartel), Peaceful Regin (BP Phoenix Reign-Special Peace Keeper), and Rocking the World (This Chets a Rockin-My Big Time) completed the order of finish.

RELENTLESS LEGACY
Aby Michael Compton
fter breaking his maiden at Remington Park in
May of 2021, Relentless Legacy was not seen on the racetrack again until May of this year (because of a sesamoid issue) when he returned to finish 5th in
a Remington Park allowance dash. The bay gelding obviously responded to a year off to heal and got enough fitness out of his return engagement as he then annexed the $25,000 North Star State Derby at Canterbury Park on June 1.
Ridden by Edwin Escobedo, Relentless Legacy raced in third position early in the 400-yard event. He rallied strongly in the lane and drove past the early leader Tomi Guns approaching the finish to score by a 1/2-length in the end.
In registering the initial stakes win of his career, Relentless Legacy stopped the timer in :20.049 and earned a speed index of 92.
Owned by Tom Maher and trained by Jason Olmstead—the pair had three entrants in the race—Relentless Legacy improved his record to 3-2-0-0, and the $14,000 winner’s share of the purse increased his earnings to $25,180.
Relentless Legacy was bred in Minnesota by Donald Friesen and is out of the graded stakes- placed mare Legacys a Streakin, by Streakin La Jolla.
Michael B (Jess Good Candy-Magics Miracle Wagon), with Uriel Cervantes in the irons, finished second for owner Cynthia Besser and trainer Briannah McDaniel. Tomi Guns (BPPhoenix Reign-Bee Bee Guns) led the race early but was outkicked late and finished third under jockey Doug Fink. The chestnut gelding races in the colors of Darin and Jessica Meyers and is also conditioned by McDaniel.
Relentless Babe (Hes Relentless-Mai Corona) and Relentless Courage (Hes Relentless-Newport Lily) completed the order of finish. PR Little Miss Guns and Shes A Tough Soldier were scratched.
