Zoomn On Bye surprised the field in the $46,040 Alberta Bred Futurity at Century Downs on Sept. 15. He broke his maiden in the stakes at 26-1.
The eighth-fastest qualifier, Zoomn On Bye had finished third in his trial and had finished second at Grand Prairie Aug. 10 in his second start. In the Futurity final, Zoomn On Bye broke third for jockey Martin Ortiz. It took the gelding a few strides to get going, but then he steadily passed rivals to eke out a neck victory in a blanket finish—only a neck margin sepa- rated each of the first eight across the wire. Zoomn On Bye completed
350 yards in :17.761. The $20,718 winner’s share of the purse boosted his total bankroll to $30,428.
Allen Goodsell trains Zoomn On Bye for owner Thomas Pick. Shady Lane Stables bred Zoomn On Bye out of Eyesa Chickin It Out, whose stakes-placings included a second in the 2007 Alberta Bred Derby-RG3. The mare has produced five win- ners in six starters, including stakes- placed Eyesa Zoomn, a full brother to Zoomn On Bye. Both are by the Shazoom stallion Mezoomn.
Wes Oulton bred, owns, and trains second-place Suits (First Timber-Burners Beauty). Ceasar Cervantes rode Suits, who finished
third in this year’s Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity.
Oulton also owns and trains third-place Quarter Sawn (First Timber-Starlite Delight), ridden by Adrian Gonzalez. Quarter Sawn had won two of six prior starts.
Rounding out the field were Timbergold (First Timber-Gilded Gold), Sasses Loki (First Timber- Sass N Dass), Chinook Cartel (Coronado Cartel-Lets Get Going), Rolling Timber (First Timber-Kristy Rey), Separate Xpress (Mezoomn- Quota), Poutn And Streakin (Its
All About Speed-Poutnlori) and Allthespeedyouneed (Its All About Speed-Wave Rocker).
