victory did not come easy for HH Guns Drawn in the $86,250 Iowa Double Gold Futurity-RG3 on Sept. 1 at Prairie Meadows.
But Bradley Hale and Wade Helton’s gelding pre- vailed in a photo with High Handed Attitude.
HH Guns Drawn improved to 2-0 in as many starts, and the gelding’s total bank- roll reached $37,500 with the addition of a $34,500 payday from the futurity.
HH Guns Drawn drew the outside starting position and got out of the gates at the rear of the nine-horse field. Meanwhile, High Handed Attitude streaked
to the front. However, HH Guns Drawn came charging from the outside to hit the finish line simultaneously with his rival. A review of the photo revealed HH Guns Drawn reached the wire first by a nose.
Brent Clay, who would also saddle the winner in the Iowa Double Gold Derby
the following day, trains HH Guns Drawn, who covered the 350 yards in :17.763 for an 89 speed index. HH Guns Drawn broke his maiden in time trials for the futurity, clocking a :17.749 that stood as the fourth-fastest. HH Guns Drawn had been designated as the race favorite at post time, and he went into the
gates at less than 2-1 odds. Jockey Berkley Packer
drew the riding assignment on HH Guns Drawn, who was bred by Hale in Oklahoma out of Cosmic Corona. Hale also owns Cosmic Corona, an unraced 2003 mare who has produced two foals of racing age, both of which are starters. To date, HH Guns Drawn is the only winner for his dam.
High Handed Attitude (Jonathan Perry-Unlatch
My Attitude) had the lead late but settled for second. Dalton Gold is the owner and Wayne Garner the trainer. Cody Smith rode High Handed Attitude, who was the second-fastest qualifier for the futurity.
Woow (Ivory James-Ima Snow Runner), a 15-1 underdog, missed second by a neck but still hit the board for owner Brad Tate. The Charley Hunt trainee had Thomas Wellington in the irons.
HR Ebony Princess (Ivory James-Devilish Princess TB), Sassy Follies (Ivory James-My Happy Memory), Iv Ivory Princess (Ivory James-Blaze The Mall), Perry Got Cash (Jonathan Perry-Bring Me Cash), Sooner Regards (Chicks Regard-Yawls Spreadn Rumors) and Runaway For Corona (Midnight Corona-Runaway Valentine) completed the field. Bradys Regard was scratched.

Iowa Double Gold Derby

one word best describes the race record of Eufaula Me—consistency. John Lawless’ gelding added to his reliable reputation on Sept.
2 at Prairie Meadows, making a driving finish from the outside to chase down Shanachee and win the $76,181 Iowa Double Gold Derby.
It marked the fifth win in nine lifetime outs for Eufaula Me, who has finished in
the money in all but one of his starts to date. Eufaula Me now holds two
stakes victories, both coming
at Prairie Meadows. He also
won last year’s running of the
Jim Bader Futurity.
Eufaula Me made a stir- ring rally in this 400-yard derby. The gelding broke from the No. 10 gate off the pace, but jockey Stormy Smith quickly helped Eufaula Me close on the leader, Shanachee. Eufaula Me was running a close

third as Shanachee reached the stretch, and overtook his competitor in the final strides to win the event by a neck.
Eufaula Me finished in :20.005, logging an 89 speed index. The gelding is trained by Brent Clay, who also saddled the winning horse in the Iowa Double Gold Futurity-RG3 held Sept. 1 at this same track.
The victory reaped a $37,045 payday for Lawless, and pushed the total earnings of Eufaula Me close
to the $150,000 milestone at a new total of $143,818.
Sheri Lynn Andrew bred Eufaula Me out of Yawls Spreadn Rumors, who has also produced stakes winners Okey I Am and Wheres Your Wagon, along with stakes-placed run- ners Who The Lmi, Who The Lru and Where The Lmi. All nine of Yawls Spreadn Rumors’ foals are starters and winners.
Charlton Hunt trains the other two horses that hit the board—Shanachee (Country Chicks Man-Court Etiquette) and Count The Menace (Executive Menace-Countess Rare Bar). Shanachee placed a close second for owner J. Garvan Kelly. Troy Crissup did the riding.
Count The Menace finished third. Hunt co-owns Count The Menace along with Starlet Hunt, and Cody Smith was aboard.
The remaining order of finish was
Ja Gol Tender (Gol-Zee Ann), Prime Country (Country Chicks Man- Mamaimcominhome), Whiz Happens (Chick Happens-Brandi Whiz), Casino Black (Special Legend-Ru Upity), Eye Fly Bye (Fly Jess Fly-Miss Social Eyes), Ja Gols Specialcharm (Gol-Amandas Specialcharm) and Hulk Smash (Fly Jess Fly-Toast To Gypsy). Miss Kara was scratched.
