LET THERE BE SOUND
 By Michael Compton
Let There Be Sound drew widest of all in the $104,500 Cox Ranch Distance Challenge Championship-G1 at Albuquerque Downs
on Oct. 26, but covering ground is in the 5-year-old gelding’s wheelhouse. The distance specialist overcame the wide post position and recorded his fourth consecutive win.
With Stormy Smith aboard, Let There Be Sound showed the way early. He lengthened his advantage to 1 1/2-lengths in the stretch and prevailed by 3/4-lengths from a fast-clos- ing Ms Esther and jockey Alfredo Triana Jr., stopping the timer in :44.711. The final time earned a speed index of 94.
Owned by Louis and Corrine Howard
and trained by John Stinebaugh, Let There
Be Sound now has seven wins, three of them stakes, from 22 starts. All his seven victories have come at the 870-yard distance and he is perfect in all three starts in 2019. The $51,205 winner’s share of the purse increased the bay gelding’s bankroll to $172,941.
Let There Be Sound qualified to this event after winning the Albuquerque Distance
Challenge on July 28 by 2-lengths. In the race prior to that, he won the Bill Reed Memorial. Bred in Iowa by Black Oak Farm, Let
There Be Sound is produced from the Thoroughbred mare Sakakawea, a multiple stakes-winning and 11-time winner during her racing career. Sakakawea has produced 100% money earners from 2 starters.
Let There Be Sound is her first stakes winner. The second dam, Sarouka, was a 3-time winner of the Mamie Eisenhower Stakes at Prairie Meadows, sweeping
it from 2010-2012. She also won the Bob Bryant Stakes and banked $371,850.
Runner-up/race favorite Ms
Esther (Afrashad TB-Tres Down
The Cash) closed in the stretch
and was easily 2nd-best. Owned
& trained by Jordan Baumann,
Ms Esther was bred in Oklahoma
by Duwyne & Janice Pfeifle. The 5-year-old mare was seeking back-to-back stakes scores.
Madewell (Jess Jones-Streakin Peacock) and jockey James Flores were 3rd for Ray & Davy
Madewell and trainer Tammy Johnson. Madewell has finished 2nd in 3 con- secutive stakes tries, behind Let There Be Sound 2 starts back and behind Ms Esther in his previous outing.
Followed by Bout Tree Fiddy (Ivory James- Hollie Jollie), Gone To Be Bright (Gone To The Mountain-DJ Bright Tarbaby), American Hat (Favorite Cartel-Hat D Strawfly) & Run Raging
Rhino Run (FDD Dynasty-Love That Six). CM Once Ina Bluemoon was scratched.
