Lucky Seven Ranch bred Sass Go Blue in California from Sass Me Blue, who Lucky Seven raced to her 2016 Champion Aged Mare title. Sass Go Blue is the mare’s first winner from two starters. Sass Me Blue is
a full sister to stakes winners Jess Being Valiant and Valiant Jess and a half-sister to Champion Jess Walking Thru and graded stakes winner Fire And Sass. The second dam is stakes winner Jess Sass Me, an AQHA Dam of Distinction.
Martha Wells’ homebred Tell Cartel (Favorite Cartel-Chicks Tell) finished second for jockey Erasmo Gasca and trainer Matthew Fales. The colt earlier this year ran third in the Pat Hyland Memorial Handicap.
Flores also trains third-place finisher Flokie (Favorite Cartel-Lady Nayen) and owns the gelding with J. Francisco Diaz. Jairo Rangel piloted Flokie, who won this year’s Ed Burke Million Futurity. Flores said that “it looked like he broke up in the air—he just didn’t leave.”
Rounding out the field were Loose On Katella (Foose-Katie Katella), Pitbull (Favorite Cartel-Separate Tac), Up For Speed (Favorite Cartel-Up For It), One Sweet Change (One Sweet Jess-Echo Boomer), Up And Coming (Kiddy Up-Hits Keep Coming), Fire By Night (Walk Thru Fire-Chicks Tell) and Mental Error (Favorite Cartel-Iba Quick Chick).
