EYSA JESS JUMPN

It’s been a spectacular sophomore campaign for Eysa Jess Jumpn, and the filly kept that momentum rolling in the $204,600 Dash For
Cash Derby-G2 at Lone Star Park on Oct. 5. Owned by Jose Estrada Quarter Horses, Eysa
Jess Jumpn improved to 7-0 in 2019, and now holds 12 wins in 15 career starts with his win. Eysa Jess Jumpn has won 8 straight races,
a streak that dates back to Dec. 8, 2018,
when she captured the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile-RG2 at Fairgrounds. That win marked her second victory in stakes company, and she’s followed up with triumphs in this year’s Billy Montgomery Stakes, Sam Houston Derby-G3, and Delta Downs Louisiana Bred Derby-RG3. Eysa Jess Jumpn also earned black type by winning last year’s running of the Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity-RG1. This latest win produced an $81,840 payday, pushing her career earnings over the three-quarter-million milestone to $756,842.
Estrada thinks Eysa Jess Jumpn’s prior success in stakes company made the differ- ence in the Dash For Cash. “She was more experienced,” he said. “She’s been good in the stakes races.
“It means a lot,” he said regarding her latest victory. “I think it’s not just [one] race. You’ve got to qualify, and you’ve got to get in the field.”
That was an issue for
Eysa Jess Jumpn as a two-
year-old—she mounted
unsuccessful bids to make
the 2018 versions of the
Mardi Gras Futurity-RG2,
Louisiana Breeders’
Lassie Futurity, Louisiana
QHBA Sale Futurity, and
LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity-RG1—but she
entered the Dash For Cash
Derby-G2 as the second fast-
est qualifier from the Sept. 20 trials, winning her 440-yard heat in :21.797.
Eysa Jess Jumpn was even faster in the finals, bettering her qualifying time by almost a half- second (:21.291) and registering a 103 speed index. An even-money favorite at post time, she broke on top from the outside starting gate in a nine-horse field and led at every call under Pedro Espinosa, opening a 1-length lead as she hit the stretch and going on to win by that same margin.
Fructuoso Huitron trains Eysa Jess Jumpn and has been working with the filly for her entire career.
“I never changed the trainer,” Estrada said. “Most people, they change the trainer more than once.”
D&S Racing, LLC
bred Eysa Jess Jumpn out
of winner Jess Jumpn. She has produced three winners from four starters. Eysa Jess Jumpn is the first stakes win- ner in the brood.
Eysa Jess Jumpn isn’t done yet, however. “She’s coming back to Louisiana for the Breeders’ Derby at Evangeline,” Estrada noted.
Mpshinning (Mr Piloto- Shinningperrydash), the winner of last year’s
Louisiana Million Futurity-RG1, made a steady run for second place under Victor Urieta Jr. for owner Larry Boudreaux and trainer Adrian Huitron. Sumokeonthewater (FDD Dynasty-Sumokin), the fastest qualifier, placed third under Jesse Levario for Ruse Ranch LLC, and trainer Josue Ponce. Followed by Dak (Dominyun-Fleet Ellis),
FM Im A Zatanaz Too (Tempting Dash- Dashingfordestiny), Viva Le Don (Rock
Solid Jess-Viva Arriba), Some Temting Dash (Tempting Dash-Fast Prize Rose), Im For Real (Whathaveigottado-Imnotplaying) & Psychopath (Favorite Cartel-Streaking Power). Carry The Memories scratched.
