Despite the tension of the moment, the grey gelding Rex Sambaso went to the win- ner’s circle along with his rider, where he was received by members and followers of his team. Mr. Ramiro González Ozuna participated in the awards ceremony, of which the race was dedicated.
Rex Sambaso is part of the last crop of
the late stallion Sambaso Dancer (by First Down Dash) out of the mare The Answer Lady (by Corona Cartel), raised in the State of Coahuila, by Everardo Múzquiz Elguezábal, who consigned him to the 2018 Select Yearling Auction (Lot 139) where he went through the ring for $330,000 pesos ($16,919 US) and was acquired by Rancho El Suspiro, located in the State of Chiapas, in the Southeast of Mexico. The quality of this runner is not surprising, since he is the full brother of the grey geld-
ing Game Sambaso, distinguished as Mexico Hi-Point 3-Year-Old Gelding and the winner of seven races and $93,837 dollars, including the Mexico Derby, Mexico Bred Juvenile and Mexican Bred Derby.
With this victory, being his sixth official start, he obtained his fourth triumph and first stakes win. He also has two third places, one in the Mexico Futurity and another in Garañones Futurity. The winner’s share was 2,667,762 pesos, equivalent to approx. US $136,704. With this deposit, the earnings account of this runner with a great future
closes currently at 3.8 million pesos. He is quickly emerging as a strong candidate for Mexican Champion 2-Year-Old Gelding for 2019 at the Hipodromo de Las Américas.
Like his fellow participants in this race, Rex Sambaso was prepared and trained by José Guadalupe “Lupillo” García, with outstanding results this season. Ismael Ayala Salas saddled the winner officially.
As already mentioned, second place went to the filly Chispita Two (Danny Cartel-La Tonita) under the leadership of Leonardo Vidaña. She was raised by Cuadra La Presita and is owned by the aforementioned Rancho El Suspiro. Ismael Ayala Salas saddled her. She maintains a record of 4-2-0 from six starts and earnings greater than 1.4 million pesos.
After the disqualification of Malefico Cartel, third place went to the sorrel geld-
ing RG Onchao A King, the first son of the stallion RG Golden King and the first product of the mare Crown Lady Dos (by Sambaso Dancer). He took Rodrigo Vallejo Sigala as jockey, was trained by Alfredo Rabanal Salinas and saddled by Guillermo Hernández Portillo. His record is 3-0-1 in four performances with earnings of 913,035 pesos. The other positions when crossing the finish line were: Malefico Cartel (Danny Cartel–La Chuchena), SF Mr Shoots (Frankie Shoots–SF Miss Assault),
La Rejia (Bullish One–Eye Teller), One
Zulu Dragon (Zulu Dragon–Woodys Wild One), GS As de Bastos (Taint Your Wagon– Louisiana Dana), Princesa Cartel (Danny Cartel–Tenacious Fire) and Corona Sola (Senior Solo–Corona Dot Com)
