                Evangeline 550 Handicap
FINANCIAL TOP
by Danny Camp
Financially speaking, first place paid $12,000 to Financial Top for winning the Evangeline Downs 550 Handicap. The stakes was held at on Dec. 14
and carried a total purse of $20,000.
The 5-year-old chestnut gelding broke from
the three-post in third place. Jockey Luis Vivanco showed uncanny awareness, and his mount responded. Vivanco encouraged Financial Top just enough that they ended a head in front at the wire, thus saving his horse to run another day.
Financial Top now has a total bankroll worth $58,910 with the addition of the $12,000 winner’s share. His race record stands at six wins from 20 starts. The gelding is owned by Gerardo Prado and Karla Diaz, and Adrian Huitron is in charge of conditioning. Financial Top was bred in Arizona by H & E Ranch Inc. out of 2-time winner Financial Leverage, who has produced six race age foals. Grade 3 stakes winner Believe Me Irene is the top earner of the brood.
TH Maverick (American Runaway-Shes Jess Special) spotted the winner a length at the break, but came roaring down the lane with steady encour- agement from jockey Ricardo Hernandez Jr. and pocketed second place money for owner Adrian Moreira and trainer Xavier Alonzo. The photo showed Eagle Deluxe (One Famous Eagle-Corona Deluxe) was in third place. He is owned by David Dunn and trained by Heath Taylor. Donell Blake was in the irons. The field finished like this: Favorite Kool Cartel (Favorite Cartel-Rustys Cool Lady) Stone Cold Leader (Brookestone Bay-Sheza Classy Leader), Flash Moonfire (First Moonflash-Required Fire), TDZ Going Nuts (FDD Going Grand- Thequeenhasgonenuts), Racing Kane (Jet Black Patriot-Ms Janas Perry), Jw Losin Control (Strong Hope-EW Comment) & Ellepradas Jumbo Jet (Jet Black Patriot-My Elle Prada TB).

B F Phillips Jr Stakes
SERENDIPITY ROCKS
by Michael Compton
Serendipity Rocks made it back-to-back victories and registered his second stakes score with a much-the-best performance in the $25,000 B.F. Phillips Jr. Stakes at Lone Star Park on Nov. 8. With Jose Montoya aboard, Serendipity Rocks had an alert takeoff and ran away from five rivals
in the 400-yard dash. He dueled early with DM La Jolla but put that one away and drew clear to defeat This Is A Deal Too and jockey Francisco Calderon by 1-length at the finish. Trained by Esteban Rubio, Serendipity Rocks received every call and stopped the timer in :19.625 for a 99 speed index.
A homebred for Sarah Huskey, Serendipity Rocks improved his record to 14-7(2)-0-1 and now boasts a bankroll of $134,241. Last year, Serendipity Rocks captured the Sam Houston Derby-G3 and was also
a finalist in the Texas Classic Derby-G1, TQHA Classic and Retama Park Derby.
Huskey bred Seredipity Rocks out of winner Precious Serendipity. She has produced 100% win- ners from 7 starters. Seredipity Rocks is her second stakes winner and top earner.
Runner-up This Is A Deal Too (Dealagame- Lady Lilla) ran a game race, but was second-best for owner/breeder Pete Scarmardo and trainer Leon Bard. The graded stakes winner entered the B.F. Phillips Jr Stakes off three straight stakes plac- ings. The sorrel gelding was victorious in last year’s Lovington Stakes-G2.
DM La Jolla (Hiclass La Jolla-DM Bella Mia) and jockey Jorge Garcia finished third after flashing early speed for owner Sergio Jimenez and trainer Porfirio Fierro. The stakes winner was bred in Texas by Donna Mushinski.
