                  Garañones Futurity Consolation
CORONA SOLA
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The filly Corona Sola won this year’s Mexico Futurity Consolation and Garañónes Futurity Consolation. The report of Mexico Futurity
Consolation was published in the June edition, and it was also published in the September edi- tion where the Garañónes Futurity Consolation should have appeared. We now offer the report of Corona Sola winning the Garañónes Futurity Consolation that was previously omitted.
In the race for the consolation prize of the Garañones Futurity, only eight of the 10 quali- fied individuals participated due to the scratch- ing of La Ripol of Rancho El Suspiro and Sola Latina from Rancho Santa Cruz. However, each of these teams were still left with two competitors, who were selected as favorites to win at the betting windows, with little prefer- ence in favor of Cuadra Santa Cruz and their horses One Zulu Dragon and La Rejia.
At the break, participants of the four positions near the inside rail committed infractions: Kool Pourin onto Chispita Two, who closed the path of Flor Eagle, while also being hit on the left flank by One Zulu Dragon. Flor Eagle was the one who got the worst of it, staying in the rear of the group.
Free from the conflict, the black filly Chispita Two began a quick getaway in a close duel with One Zulu Dragon. Meanwhile, from
the center of the field, Corona
Sola headed for the outside rail
under the energetic command
of Leonardo Vidaña. There,
they traced their route to
victory, which they achieved
by crossing the 300-yards in :15.04 (SI 99), 3/4-length in front of Chispita Two, the same difference with which the latter surpassed One Zulu Dragon, over a muddy track.
The prize assigned was $514,540 pesos (approx. US $26,745), of which the part cor- responding to first and second place (75%) was credited to the account of the fillies owned by Rancho El Suspiro, both raised by Cuadra La Presita and saddled by trainer Ismael Ayala Salas.
The sorrel filly Corona Sola (Senior Solo- Corona Dot Com, Corona Cartel) earned her third victory in four starts on the track, also having a second place finish. The filly also won the Mexico Futurity consolation. Because of the performance she has shown, it is highly likely that she will qualify for the finals of the Select Auction Futurity, the most important futurity for Mexican breds. In the corresponding 2018 sale, Corona Sola was sold in the ring at $300,000 pesos (approx. $15,380), becoming the prop-
erty of Rancho El Suspiro located in the State
of Chiapas, in southeastern Mexico.
Always fierce on the track, Chispita Two (Danny Cartel-La Tonita) took second place sup- ported by José Ángel Ambrosio
Medina; as already mentioned, in favor of Rancho El Suspiro and trainer Ismael Ayala Salas. In her four outings, she has three wins and now this sec- ond place. She is the winner of the Mexico Futurity Division 1.
One Zulu Dragon, winner of the Mexico Futurity, had no luck in this event. In his trial to this race, he was hit on the right by OI
Pure Samuray and, although he won his heat, he qualified with the last time and was only able to dispute the consolation prize, where
he was not exempt from setbacks either. One Zulu Dragon was under the reins of Alejandro Gómez Díaz and is by Zulu Dragon and out of Woodys Wild, owned by Cuadra Santa Cruz and saddled by trainer Víctor Jarillo Sánchez.
Having also ran were: Kool Pourin (Pourin Corona–Kool Kool Lady), GS As De Bastos (Taint Your Wagon–Louisina Dana), Bourbon Eagle SA (Jabuti Eagle SA–Bourbon Street Dolly), La Rejia (Bullish One–Eye Teller) and Flor Eagle (Jabuti Eagle SA–Flor De Decierto).
