Flash And Roll’s winning connections include owner Scott Bryant, trainer Justin Joiner & jockey G.R. Carter Jr.
Flash And Roll can get a little excited before her races, and Justin Joiner walked her to the paddock from the barn before the race.
“She does a little better with me,” said Justin. “My groom, Sy Broussard, tends to wash out a little bit, but that’s because he likes his job and loves this filly. I even gave him the option tonight. I said, ‘You want me to lead her back there or do you want to lead her?’
He said, ‘I have no arguments—you take her up there.’ I wasn’t worried about her on the track. It’s getting her to the paddock and in the paddock.”
Joiner said Flash And Roll would return to New Mexico and get a bit of a break.
He said he X-rayed her after the $2 Million trials and, “I couldn’t find a pimple on her.” He will likely ready her for derby trials
at Ruidoso.
Julianna Hawn Holt bred Flash And Roll in California and consigned her to the 2017 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, where she sold for $200,000.
“The Joiners picked her out,” said Bryant. “She was one of the last ones in the sale.”
Flash And Roll is out of the 2009 Champion Aged Mare Stylish Jess Br, a seven- time Grade 1 winner at Los Alamitos. Stylish Jess Br has produced four winners in seven starters, including stakes-placed Jess Secrets Br. Flash And Roll is her first stakes winner as well as her top money earnee.
Ali Babe Foose (Foose-Babe On The Fly), ridden by Jose Nicasio, finished second, a nose
ahead of Lethal Lil (Corona Cartel-Lethal Delight), piloted by Cody Jensen.
Jaime Gomez trains Ali Babe Foose for owner Cesar Dabdoub. The colt won the Ed Burke Juvenile Stakes.
Christopher O’Dell trains Lethal Lil for owner La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC. The filly was second in the Rainbow Futurity-G1.
Completing the field were Transcend (Walk Thru Fire-In Another World), Apollitical Pence (Apollitical Jess-Send City), Powerful Favorite (Favorite Cartel-Remember Me Rose), Mister Appolitical (Apollitical Jess-LR Miss Atina), Dexxter (Corona Cartel-Tres Of Linda), Seaduction (Foose-Tres Sea) and Deceiver (Foose-Fool The Boys).
