HAZEL DAZEL
by Danny Camp
Hazel Dazel scored her first stakes win in the $89,680 Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Mystery Derby at Will Rogers Downs on Nov. 10.
The filly finished fourth in her Oct. 26 trial and just squeaked into the finals with the ninth fastest time.
In the finals, she broke quickly from the 7-post on the lead and stayed there throughout. Under James Flores, Hazel Dazel held on to cross the wire a head in front for a wire-to-wire victory.
Running for T. C. Flack and Louis A. Malechek III, Hazel Dazel completed the 350 yards in :17.584 to earn a 95 speed index. She is trained by R.L. Robinson. Including first place money of $36,372, the filly has now earned a total of $84,785 and has a race record of 16-4(1)-2-2.
Reliance Ranches LLC bred Hazel Dazel out
of New Track Record setter Huckleberry Mojito, winner of the 2012 Canterbury Park Derby and Race For Hope Bonus Challenge. Don Drake P&A Memorial
DTL SAMUREYE
by Michael Compton
DTL Samureye had to dig deep to earn his fourth consecutive victory, but that’s just what the 3-year-old gelding did to prevail in the $16,200 Don Drake Memorial Stakes for Paints and Appaloosas at
Will Rogers Downs on Nov. 10.
Ridden by jockey Agustin Silva, DTL Samureye
broke sharply and grabbed the early lead. He was pressured every step of the way in the 350-yard test by D Railed and simply refused to be denied, defeat- ing that rival by a neck at the finish as the odds-on race favorite. Bully Pulpit finished another neck back in third in the blanket finish.
DTL Samureye stopped the timer in :17.717, earning a 91 speed index. R.L. Robinson is his conditioner.
Owned by Almada Racing, DTL Samureye picked up the $9,612 winner’s share of the purse, boosting his lifetime bankroll to $75,535.
Dean and Tonya Lester bred DTL Samureye out of Eysa Savvy Queen, finalist in the 2005 Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Futurity-G2. She has produced 100% winners from five starters, including stakes-placers DTL Harley Quinn and Eyem Savvy. DTL Samureye is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
Jose Vega piloted the runner-up, D Railed ApHC (Freighttrain B QH-Jess Streakin) for owner Jeff Adams and trainer Dee Keener.
Bully Pulpit APHA (CRM Livewire-Judys Apollo) finished third under Cody Smith for owners Dan & Kaye Jones and trainer Matt Whitekiller.

B F Phillips Jr Stakes-RG3
SF HOT PASS
by Tracy Gantz
SF Hot Pass is on a hot streak. He added the $25,000 B. F. Phillips Jr. Stakes-RG3 at Lone Star Park on Nov. 3 to consecutive victories in the TQHA Classic Stakes-RG2 at Retama Park and the Nevill Stakes and Refrigerator Stakes-G1 at Lone Star, making him the first horse to win all three dur- ing a single season since the track opened in 1997. Sent away the 7-10 favorite, SF Hot Pass broke
in second under jockey Francisco Calderon. The 5-year-old gelding quickly took the lead, extending his advantage to 1-length at the wire.
The duo completed the 400 yards in :19.343, posting a career-best 107 speed index.
Leon Bard trains SF Hot Pass for owner Shannon Stormy Fisher. Prior to Bard taking over, SF Hot Pass had only won two races in 11 starts.
The gelding now has a race record of 15-6(4)-2-0 and the $14,750 winner’s share of the purse boosted his total lifetime earnings to $110,530.
P & J Racing Ltd. and D. Stroebel bred SF
Hot Pass out of unraced Passem Up Perry. She has produced 100% winners from five starters, including Southern Temptation, winner of the Harris County 550 Stakes and the Delta 550 Stakes earlier this year. SF Hot Pass is her second stakes winner and top earner.
The Golden Bowl (Mr Eye Opener-First Dashin Bye) ran second under jockey Jesse Levario for owner Rogelio Marquez Jr. and trainer Fernando Lopez.
