 Lone Star Park Closes Out Another Successful Season
Lone Star Park ended its 2018 Quarter Horse meet Nov. 10. J. Fabian Hernandez was named the leading owner with 4 wins, the leading trainer was Josue Ponce with 17 wins, and Jesse Levario was the leading jockey with 18 wins. Shown above, SF Hot Pass (Ivory James-Passem Up Perry, Mr Jess Perry) was the Horse of the Meet for owner Shannon Fisher and trainer Leon Bard with wins in the Refrigerator Stakes-G1, B F Phillips Jr Handicap-G3 & Nevill Stakes.

                                         Rubén Haces Loaiza Passes Away
Rubén Haces Loaiza passed away on Dec. 7. Rubén not only witnessed most of the history of the Hipódromo de las Américas Racetrack
in Mexico City, but also captured the most significant moments through thousands of written pages published in the traditional news- paper “Esto” since 1952. Don Rubén was born in 1931 and began practicing sports at a very young age. He later pursued a life dedicated to sports journalism. He joined Esto in 1952 as a substitute for the source of the racecourse and later became a starter. He is survived by many family members and friends.
World Champion sire Bono Jazz Dies
1996 sorrel stallion Bono Jazz (Jazzing Hi-Pro Bono) died on Aug. 25. Owned by Doug Allen DVM, Bono Jazz won nine of 22 starts, including four stakes events earning $316,124. A leading sire, his top performer is 2004 World Champion Be A Bono.
Champion Sire Mr Eye Opener Dies
Four-time Champion sire Mr Eye Opener (Dash For Cash-Bedawee) died Nov. 17 at the age of 28. Owned by Dee & Betty Raper, the stallion won nine races from 15 starts with earnings of $202,978. Mr Eye Opener is the sire of 13 Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Champions with earnings of nearly $29 million from 22 crops raced.
Sir Runaway Dash Dies
Sir Runaway Dash (First Down Dash- Runaway Wave) died on Oct. 20 due to colic. Bred by Lucas Racing Inc., the 2004 stallion won or placed in 12 of 19 starts with earnings of $120,706. From seven crops to race, Sir Runaway Dash is the sire of 128 winners and 18 stakes horses with $5.5 million in earnings.
