LEGENDS
Bold Love (#5 in the center of the track), shown winning the World’s Championship Classic at Ruidoso Downs, was one of the top aged mares of 1981.
Bases Full is a stakes-winning full sister to the multiple stakes winner and sire Hitting Away.
Bases Full was sired by Ambiorix and out of Broodmare of the Year Striking, a multiple stakes winner and a full sister to Busher
and Mr. Busher. Striking is the dam of five stakes winners. A daughter of War Admiral, Striking is out of a daughter of the great producer *La Troienne.
Like his sire Bold And Brave, Bold Moon is out of a gifted female family. The female fam- ily hails from Romance, a daughter of Luke McLuke, who is Bold Moon’s fourth dam.
Romance only produced three foals, but among them was the multiple stakes win-
ner Whopper, who earned over $80,000 and won 18 races a half a century ago. His biggest victories include the San Juan Capistrano at the marathon distance of a mile and three quarters. Whopper evidently enjoyed a distance of ground, yet the sire of Romance, Luke McLuke, was also the maternal grandsire of Three Bars.
The top performer in Bold Moon’s direct female family is his second dam Papoose, who was one of the top fillies in training during
her juvenile season. A daughter of champion Tom Foole’s sire Menow and Romance’s daughter Pirogue, Papoose won the Polly Drumond Stakes at 2 and was also second in the Demoiselle and the Rosedale stakes while picking up a third in the Hyde Park Stakes.
She continued to show her sprinting ability as
a sophomore when she was third in the Fall Highweight Handicap, one of the major races in the annual battle for champion sprinter honors.
Papoose was bred to the noted sire of speed Catullus, and the result was Bold Moon’s dam, Roman Feather. A son of the renowned Roman, Catullus only raced as a 2-year-old and won the Juvenile Stakes at Aqueduct and the Flash Stakes. Catullus, who stood for much of his career in Puerto Rico, showed to be a sire of early maturity and speed with his son Kaskaskia.
Kaskaskia started off his career in top form with wins in the prestigious Juvenile and Youthful Stakes as a freshman. He retired with a bank account of over $101,000. In the stud he sired stakes winners Forever Casting and Coup De Kas from his Thoroughbred foals and the Quarter Horse added money winner A Bit Of Class.
Roman Feather, the dam of Bold Moon, has had six foals, and every one of them has made it to the races and proven to be a win- ner. Bold Moon is the leading performer from Roman Feather’s producer. Likewise, Bold Love is the leading performer from the four foals that Lovely Moon has produced.
Park, Bold ‘n Determined gave 4 pounds to Genuine Risk and still proved to be the victor. In 1980 alone, Bold ‘n Determined won nine of 12 starts and earned over $643,000.
Bold Ruler, the sire of Bold And Brave, has been one of the major breeding influences of this century. Bold Ruler sired 75 stakes
winners and 11 champions, including two- time Horse of the Year Secretariat, Marlboro Cup winner Wajima and Champion filly Gamely.
As is the case with most Bold Ruler sons, Bold And Brave is out of an impressive black type female family. Bold And Brave’s dam
Top Moon excelled as a broodmare sire, producing such mares as Lovely Moon, the dam of Bold Love.
