César Pedrero Anaya Classic
MIMOSA SEA HORSE
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
Don César Pedrero Anaya is considered a pioneer in the promotion of Quarter Horse racing in Mexico, and is one of the
producers of what today is the Mexican Association of Quarter Horse Breeders’ and Horsemen, AC. He was the first president in 1968. This classic, established in 2013, is a way to recognize his career and the valuable con- tributions he made to the national equestrian scene, which has been preserved through his children and grandchildren.
The race is for two years born in Mexico which are “maidens” at the time of nomina- tion and who are paid up into the race. This 330-yard classic was worth $226,400 pesos ($11,859 US approximately) on the main straight of the Hipódromo de las Américas.
At the start of the race, SE Secret Perry (#6) was left behind and his path hindered by Candidat Ryon Shoots (#7) and Mimosa
Sea Horse (#5). It was the bay filly Mimosa Sea Horse who soon led, responding to the energetic commands of José Ángel Ambrosio, taking point to cross the finish line first. Finishing second was SE Secret Perry, who recovered quite well from the initial upset and closed 1/2-length from the lead, with Password Is René in third place.
Mimosa Sea Horse (Sea Horse Corona-Jess Call Me Mimosa, Jess Call Me Doc) ran a time of :16.95. This marks the filly’s second triumph from six races. Her first victory was on Oct. 8, also under the baton of José Ángel Ambrosio Medina. She is owned by Cuadra Falcón, trained by Juvencio Vázquez Carmona, and was bred by Oscar Leos Allande, a resident of the State of Chihuahua.
Special guests at the awards ceremony were César, Álvaro and Jorge Pedrero, sons of the honoree, accompanied by other family members.
Previous winners of this classic are Baby Trick in 2016, Quick 21 in 2015, Sadies Legacy in 2014, and Swilken Dancer in 2013.
SE Secret Perry (No Secrets Here-Miss Sweetie Perry) was second under Moisés Molina for Cuadra Santa Elena and trainer Víctor Jarillo Sánchez.
Third place went to Password Is René (Quik Brew-Special Password). He was guided by Mario Alberto López Marmolejo for Owner Cuadra Tres Coronas and trainer Victor Hugo Ramírez Moreno.
Show Me A Corona (Ought To Be
A Corona–Show Me A Man), SE Jess Winner (Jess Zoomin–Brimming Winner), Candidat Ryon Shots (Frankie Shoots– Dremin Ryon), Easy Dash Diamond (Sambaso Dancer–Box O Diamonds), and BR Florentin Fortune (Royal Florentino– Regal Fortune) completed the field.
In the winner’s circle for the deserved recognition of César Pedrero, who was represented by his family.
