mare, and a gentleman (who owned her) lived about 20 to 25 miles from me,” Jim says. “I heard he had her for sale and I had never seen her, but people had told me about her. So, I went down to look at her and I liked her. I bought her and brought her home. She was bred to Jody O Toole and I thought that would be a good cross. I bred her to few horses.”
Mini Rumors had raced with five wins from 15 starts and total earnings of $28,102. Her sire is Fraser River, who earned $47,387 from three wins in five starts. Fraser River was well thought of as a yearling when he sold for $600,000 at the Keeneland July
sale in 1991. He was a 3/4-brother to
Jade Hunter, winner of the 1988 Donn Handicap-G1 and Gulf Stream Park Handicap-G1. Jade Hunter sold as a yearling in 1984 for $700,000. Fraser River raced in both France and the USA. He had two starts in France at three, winning one of them.
Fraser River is by 1987 Eclipse Champion 2-Year-Old Male Forty Niner. The race record for Forty Niner shows that he won four stakes races at two, including the Champagne Stakes-G1 and the Futurity Stakes-G1. He also scored wins in the
1988 Travers Stakes-G1 and 1988 Haskell Invitational Stakes-G1. He earned $2.7 million on the track, including his most famous race when he was second to Winning Colors in the 1988 Kentucky Derby-G1. Forty Niner, who is the sire of winners of over $43 million, is by Mr. Prospector and out of File by Tom Rolfe.
Jadana, the dam of Fraser River, came
to the USA in 1982 from Ireland. She
has six starts with three wins, including
the Marigold Stakes, and has earnings of $19,680. Jadana produced 14 foals with
10 starters, eight winners and one stakes winner in Jade Hunter. Her foals have earned $600,345 racing around the world.
Jadana is sired by Pharly, a son of Lyphard by Northern Dancer. Pharly won several stakes in France, including the Prix Lupin (Fr-G1), Prix de la Foret (Fr-G1), Prix du Moulin de Longchamp (Fr-G1). He earned $361,961 with five wins, five second place finishes and one third in 15 starts. Pharly is out of Comely by Boran.
The dam of Jadana is Janina by Match. Jadana was a winner of three of her five starts and is the dam of three stakes winners, including 1979 Champion 2-Year-Old Colt in England and France Monteverdi. He
won the William Hill Dewhurst Stakes-G1, National Stakes-G2 and the Ashford Castle S. (IRE). Monteverdi is a 3/4-brother to Jadana. Their dam, Janina, is out of Jennifer by the great Hyperion.
Fraser River is the sire of Thoroughbred racehorses that have won over $2.7 million, including Amoriah, winner of
the 2000 Louisiana Champions Day
Lassie Stakes ($136,288). His leading money earner is Hatenot, a stakes placed runner with earnings of $211,080.
The AQHA shows Fraser River has one Thoroughbred runner in Quarter Horse races named Screamin Demon, who earned a 95 speed index and won $155,408 on Thoroughbred tracks. Fraser River has no Quarter Horse colts, but his daughters have produced 14 Quarter Horse foals
that have earned four ROM with no stakes horses and earnings of $72,637. His leading money earner in this category is Dylans Shadow, an ROM runner with one win and earnings of $25,275.
Mini Rumors is out of Dandy Queen, a race winner from eight races with earnings
of $4,415. Dandy Queen is the dam of five Thoroughbred foals/winners, including stakes placed runner Final Possesion who was second in the Louisiana Futurity and was the winner of 12 races with earnings of $58,893.
The sire of Dandy Queen is winner Dansons, who had earnings of $19,760. He is the sire of runners that earned $2.4 million. One of his leading money earners was Lake Dianchi, winner of $243,141 including a win in the 1987 Louisiana Futurity.
Dansons is by Raise A Native and out of Royal Match by Turn To. Royal Match is out of 1974 Thoroughbred Broodmare of the Year Cosmah. She was the dam of leading Thoroughbred sire Halo. Cosmah is out of Almahmoud, dam of Natalma, dam of the legendary Northern Dancer.
Dandy Queen is out of unraced Beebee, who is the dam of seven foals with six winners. Her runners included Amoriah, a stakes winner in the Louisiana Futurity and the Magnolia Stakes. Amoriah was the dam of Inaugural Stakes winner Buck Forbes.
An added note: I found some confusion with two mares named Amoriah. One Amoriah (1980) is a stakes winner sired
by Norcliffe and out of Beebee. The other Amoriah (1998) is sired by Fraser River and she is a stakes winner. The interesting part of this is they were both bred in Louisiana by Jerry Adkins. Jerry Adkins is the breeder of Dandy Queen and Mini Rumors.
Beebee is sired by Drone by Sir
Gaylord by Turn To. Sir Gaylord is out of Somethingroyal, the dam of Secretariat. This also gives Dandy Queen a breeding pattern of 3 X 4 to Turn To. Beebee is out of Rousseau by Barbizon, the broodmare sire of Raise Your Glass, the sire of Special Effort, the Ruidoso Triple Crown winner of the
