Oklahoma Futurity-G2
PYC LEGACY
by Tracy Gantz
TA few days after the March 25 Oklahoma Futurity-G2 at Remington Park, trainer Waylan Melton was still marveling over the night his stable had. Not only did he win the Eastex Stakes-G2 with Head Patron, later in the card he added the rich Oklahoma Futurity with PYC Legacy after qualifying three to
the race., “This is a dream come true for me,” Melton said. “Just having three in there, it was like, no, this ain’t happening right now.”
For owner Rito Sosa, Melton qualified PYC Legacy and Fun N Fire to the Oklahoma Futurity, and for owner Josefina Guzman he qualified Fly On Sister. Rito and Guzman own PYC Fun N Fancy, the sire of PYC Legacy and Fun N Fire. Rito raced PYC Fun N Fancy with the late Jose Guzman, and the partners also won the 2019 All American Futurity-G1 with Mr Jess Jenkins.
All three of Melton’s qualifiers won their trials in their racing debuts under jockey Juan Pulido. Fun N Fire qualified 3rd fastest, while PYC Legacy’s winning margin was 1 3/4-lengths
