San Lorenzo Blood, the second-fastest qualifier for the $365,080 Mardi Gras Futurity-RG2 during the March 3 tri-
als, proved in the main event that it isn’t always about who runs the fastest in the qualifying heats. San Lorenzo Blood improved from the trials and delivered a knockout blow to her rivals in the main event, winning the March 25th Mardi Gras Futurity in dominant fashion for owner Rogelio Marquez Jr.
Ridden by Rolando Cabrera, San Lorenzo Blood broke sharply and on top in the 300- yard event and shook loose of nine rivals in the early stages. With a 1/2-length lead in the lane, San Lorenzo Blood powered to the wire unchallenged to score by 1 1/2-lengths in the end, stopping the timer in the lively time of :15.256. The final clocking, which earned a speed index of 106, was not far off TF Eyes R Struttin’s :14.950 track record from 2015.
