Sent to post as the 1-5 favorite in a field of nine sophomores, Livewires Turnpike began his three-year-old season with a dominating
1 1/2-length victory in the March 25 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Stakes-G1 at Remington Park.
Livewires Turnpike went 350 yards in :17.450 under jockey Francisco Calderon. Matt Whitekiller prepped the black son of the Cartel Success stallion CRM Livewire for owner Bryan Hawk of Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Livewires Turnpike earned the $20,784 winner’s share of a $35,000 purse.
The gelding was bred in Oklahoma by Nolan Pevehouse, and he was making his first start since Dec. 17, when he ended his 2-year- old campaign with a 1-length win as the fastest qualifier in the 400-yard Texas Hero Futurity-G1 at Lone Star Park near Dallas.
