                 San Lorenzo Blood’s winning connections include owner Rogelio Marquez Jr., trainer Jesus Marquez and jockey Rolando Cabrera.
Trained by Jesus Marquez, San Lorenzo Blood picked up the $164,286 winner’s share of the purse, which swelled her earnings total to $167,886.
“She did great today, right on point,” said her conditioner. “We are not big on schooling races, but she was training so well we knew she was ready.
Acquired by her owner for $70,000 at the LQHBA Yearling Sale last year, San Lorenzo Blood is produced from the Valiant Hero mare Ms Valiant Perry. San Lorenzo Blood was bred in Louisiana by Slash Z Quarter Horses.
Rogelio Marquez also finished fourth as an owner as his homebred One Sweet Sugar closed strongly late.
“She looked really good in the sale;
her pedigree was there, as well as her conformation,” said Marquez of San Lorenzo
Blood. “Joe Garza broke her for us and everyone on our team has worked well to get her to this point.
“Louisiana racing has been good for us,” he added. “Both fillies will go to Delta Downs and are paid into the Lassie, Lee Berwick, and the (LQHBA Louisiana) Million.”
Runner-up and fastest qualifier Eyesa Just Pretty (Carters Cartel-Eye Craft TB) had to settle for second as the race favorite after pressuring the winner throughout. Ridden by jockey Eric Reyes, Eyesa Just Pretty is owned by Blackmon Quarter Horses LLC and is trained by Janessa Muniz. A $13,000 LQHBA Sale graduate, Eyesa Just Pretty was bred in Louisiana by J. Adcock and Montgomery Equine, and she captured her trial heat by two lengths after running her 300 yards trial race in :15.44.
Hijack A Train (Freighttrain B-Newport Lily) and jockey Nestor Duran also dueled the length of the lane and finished third, just a nose behind the runner-up. Owned by Alan Duran and trained by Josue Ponce, Hijack
A Train was bred in Louisiana by Harold Jeanotte and sold for $90,000 at the 2022 LQHBA Yearling Sale. The brown gelding won his trial heat by two lengths in :15.77.
One Sweet Sugar (One Sweet Jess- Sugarshaker B) finished in fourth, and then JRS Majestic Pop Pop (Majestic Cartel-Pop a Top Special Pi), Hoztile Takeover (One Sweet Jess-Ms Pilot Id), Apollitical Force (Power Jam TB-Apollitical Scandal), Wild Topshelf Hero (Jess Bein The Hero-RBD Top Shelf), Heylemmecallyouback(You Drive I Fly-Significant Jess), and MP Sheza Yes (Mr Piloto-Sheza Yes) completed the order of finish.
