                                    Nolan Pevehouse Passes Away
Longtime horseman Nolan Pevehouse passed away after suffering a heart attack on May 20 at the age of 87. After graduating from High School, Nolan joined the Navy. He then obtained his master’s degree in accounting at Oklahoma State University and became a CPA, working for the IRS for over 20 years. Nolan was a rancher, loved bird hunting, and raced many horses. His first horse was named Turnpike Patty, and all of her descendants also had Turnpike in their names. Perhaps his most favorite horse was Painted Turnpike, a current 2019 runner who has earned $462,299 and was APHA’s 2015, 2016 and 2017 World Champion. Painted Turnpike is APHA’s all- time leading money earner as well as the first and only Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Triple Crown winner, with wins in the 2015 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 at Remington Park, the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 at Fair Meadows, and the Speedhorse Lone Star Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1. For this feat, Nolan was awarded a 3-horse Gooseneck 4-Star Trailer as well as a $5,000 bonus for also being the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Triple Crown High Point Champion. Nolan is survived by his wife Verna, four children, seven grandchil- dren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.
Robert “Bob” Pulse Passes Away
Robert “Bob” Pulse passed away on May 7, one day before his 93rd birthday. Pulse was a leading Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred breeder, owner and trainer, and was recognized at a top breeder by the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders & Owners Association. Pulse bred over 270 foals that earned more than $2 million on the track, including 2006 and 2007 Champion Distance Horse Snowbound Superstar. He trained horses in Washington, mostly at Sun Downs and Playfair Race Course. He purchased the Thoroughbred stallion Snowbound in 1999 and led him to become the sire of over $3 million in Quarter Horse earners before he sold him in 2006. Pulse also bred horses that earned 139 points in AQHA competition, including AQHA Champion Destiny Win. Pulse is survived by his wife of 48 years Phyllis, three sons and a daughter, numerous grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.
Champion First Moonflash Euthanized at 14
Champion/multiple Champion sire First Moonflash si 122 (First To Flash-Nagano Moon, Major Rime) was euthanized on May 29 at the age of 14 due to complications from laminitis. Bred by Dosi and Norma Alvarez and owned by a partnership, First Moonflash won 14 of 25 starts with earnings of $969,828. His 10 stakes victories included races such
as the Championship at Sunland Park-G1 (twice), New Mexico Classic Derby-RG1, New Mexico Classic Cup Championship-RG1 and the Jess Burner Memorial Handicap-RG1. First Moonflash set four New World Records and was named the 2009 Champion Aged Stallion. After a successful career on the
track, the stallion retired to Double LL Farm near Bosque, New Mexico, where he stood
his entire stud career. From only seven crops to race, First Moonflash is the sire of $14 million, including 2-time Champion/All American Futurity-G1 winner Handsome Jack Flash, Champion Foxy Moonflash, 2-time 2018 Champion Flash And Roll, and All American Derby-G1 winner Too Flash For You. “He was simply the greatest,” said First Moonflash co-owner Pierre Amestoy.
 Michael Womack Passes Away
Funeral services were held on May 18 for Texas horseman Michael Womack, 58, who passed away on May 13. His Womack Cavendar Farms is the co-breeder with Dunn Ranch of Apollitical Pence, who was a finalist in the 2019 Heritage Place Derby-G2. Womack also owned Fantastic Six, who is the dam of stakes horses Capital Ice, One Fantastic Gal and Days Gone Down. Womack
is survived by his wife Deanna along with many other family members and friends.
