aworld champion Paint last year at two, Flashthechicks is steadily moving up the list of all-time Paint earners. With his victory in the June 30 Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Paint and Appaloosa Derby-RG2 at Fair Meadows, Flashthechicks remains the leading active Paint money earner and stands fourth on the breed’s all-time list, behind Got Country Grip, SM Country Snowman, and Calista Corona.
Favored Flashthechicks stumbled a bit one stride out of the gate in the Derby, but recovered immediately and flew to the lead under G.R. Carter Jr. SW Eye Candy bat- tled from the inside, and after Flashthechicks put that filly away, Crazy Mother Trucker challenged from the outside. Those two came to the wire together, with Flashthechicks getting a nose victory in :17.634 for the 350 yards.
Luis Villafranco trains Flashthechicks for owner-breeder Shirley Wheeler of Boynton, Oklahoma, and her husband, Jim. At 2,
when Flashthechicks was named World Champion Solid Paint-Bred, he won the PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity-RG1, Graham Paint and Appaloosa Futurity-G1, and Pot O’ Gold Futurity-RG1. Earlier this year, he took the PSBA American Paint Classic Derby-RG1.
Shirley Wheeler bred Flashthechicks, a son of the double-registered stallion SF Royal Quick Flash, from win- ner Game Chicken, whose only other starter is the 2-year-old winner Imachickenkicker. The second dam, Kickin Chicken, has also produced Eye Opening Chick, the 2011 Champion Paint 3-Year-Old filly, and stakes winner Kickin Texas.
Crazy Mother Trucker- APHA (Sweet First
Down-Texas Fourwinds) ran second under Berkley Packer. Matthew McCart trains the filly for Wade Leggett. She won this year’s Speedhorse Graham Paint and Appaloosa Derby-G1.
Dee Keener owns third-place SW Eye Candy- APHA (Country Chicks Man-Ms Painted Eyeopener) with Steve Wright and trains the
filly as well. Larry Payne rode. At 2, she won the Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Futurity-G1.
Completing the field were Spotless Redneck-APHA (Judys Lineage-Shero), BP Cartels Paint-APHA (Cartel Success-Baileys N Sunsets), Rooster Tail-APHA (Awesome Chrome-JA Little Corona), Casting Crowns- APHA (Judys Lineage-Peggys Bouquet), Paint This Shadow-APHA (PYC Paint Your Wagon- Treasured Chick), Captain Bucko-ApHC (Cartel Success-Joyball), and Sunday Sputnik- APHA (Mr Eye Opener-Ichi Star).

ed Giles Futurity
Rm looKinG FoR Fame
by John Moorehouse
With six of the 10 competitors in the $35,192 Ed Giles Futurity coming out of Ron Moosman’s farm, the odds were good that one of Moosman’s trainees would end up victorious. From his perspective, seeing RM Looking For Fame claim that honor was the best outcome possible.
Moossman also co-owns the young gelding with Ray Moosman, and he brought home a $12,317 payday for his owners
for winning the futurity held
June 30 at Laurel Brown. RM Looking For Fame
broke his maiden after
four previous winless outs, and the gelding’s lifetime bankroll nearly tripled to a new total of $18,856. This was his second stakes race. RM Looking For Fame also qualified successfully for the Bitterroot Futurity-RG3, where he finished fifth.
64 SPEEDHORSE, July 20, 2012
Ryan Sanchez was aboard as RM Looking For Fame broke from the seven hole at the lead of the pack. He led by a neck at first
call, and remained in front by a head going into the stretch. CIR Famous Queen, who
ran second from wire-to-wire, made one final bid to catch RM Looking For Fame, but the Moosmans’ homebred gelding reached the fin- ish line first by just a nose.
RM Looking For Fame completed his 350-yard trip in :17.488. His time was a vast improvement over the :17.757 he clocked during qualifying, which placed RM Looking For Fame third in his trial and next-to-last among those to make the futurity field. He is the only foal of his dam, Switching Fame, to make starts thus far. The lightly- raced 2005 mare also has a yearling. The Moosmans also
own and bred Switching Fame, who won one of five outs during her racing career.
CIR Famous Queen (Famous Lane-Cir Queen Of Style) finished second for owner Gary Robison. The Chancey Spencer trainee had Justin Vanderwoude aboard. My Fair Dashair (Dashair-Ditto Dotti) claimed third place. The filly is owned by Kapp Investment and Luis Olivas. Orlando Olivas is the trainer and Jusus Valenzuela did the riding.
The remaining order of finish in the Ed Giles Futurity was BF Memory Lane (Maknmoves-BF Lanes Game), Furious Jess (Fly Jess Fly-Shes Furious), R Forte (Shazoom-Jewel Cartel), Lazy First Morn (First Down Morn-Ls Lazy Money B), Nemos Chic (Finding Nemo-Waynes Chick) and Whatever Shakes (Royal Shake Em-Whatevers Magic).
