Twice Second Painted Sign has attempted
to become a stakes winner, and twice he
has encountered trouble in the final. The first time he couldn’t overcome it, but he did at Fair Meadows, winning the June 30 Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Oklahoma-bred Derby.
At the break of the Derby, Paydirt Pete came out toward Second Painted Sign, who veered away from him. Paydirt Pete then careened back into Youvebeenhenried,
knocking that horse’s hind end out from under him. Youvebeenhenried ended up last. Second Painted Sign recovered quickly, however, and set about answering jockey Debbie Freeman’s urg- ing. He won by three-quarters of a length in :17.505 for the 350 yards as the 6-5 favorite.
Mary Passmore cam- paigns Second Painted Sign, whom she acquired
after his second start. Trained by Jackie Kirby, he has won five of his 10 starts, including his OHA trial, in which he was the fastest qualifier, and the trial for the Mr Master Bug Handicap earlier this year at Remington Park. In that final, he was bothered, finished seventh, and was moved up to sixth upon a disqualification.
The Mixer Ranch bred Second Painted Sign from winner Stylish Sign, an
earner of $28,306. With six winners from eight starters, Stylish Sign is also the dam of 2010 Speedhorse Gold & Silver Cup Futurity-G1 and Oklahoma Futurity-G2 winner First Painted Sign. Both First Painted Sign and Second Painted Sign are by PYC Paint Your Wagon. Third dam Sages Pillow Talk produced multiple grade I winner Easy Conversation.
Azoomin Streak (Azoom-Quick Katie Streak) finished second under Kenny Muntz. Third in last year’s OHA Oklahoma-bred Futurity-RG2, the filly races for Bella Vista Farms LLC and is trained by Eddie Lee Willis.
Willis’ father, Eddie D. Willis, trains third-place finisher Trick On The Run (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Trickie Lassie) for owner- breeder Pine Ridge Farm LLC. Ridden by Jimmy Brooks, Trick On The Run has won four of 14 races.
Completing the field were Miss Kara (Volcom- Lil Diamond Cartel), BP Mariahs JP (Mr Jess Perry-Dashin Mariah), Sugar Quick Dash
(Royal Quick Dash-Smashum Sugar), Coronas
At Sunset (Corona For Me-Sunset Bouquet), Paydirt Pete (Valiant Hero-Pure Oklahoma), and Youvebeenhenried (Make It Anywhere-Pals Miss Phoebe). Ease Bye was scratched.

owners Sammy and Nadine Hester quali- fied two well-bred Paints to the June 30 Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Paint and
Appaloosa Futurity-RG1 at Fair Meadows. Both Judys Miss Banks and T H San Man descend from Judys Chick, their second dam and one of the most influential mares in Paint racing history.
It wasn’t surprising to see the stablemates battle it out for the victory,
especially after favored Super
Glide Harley, the fastest
qualifier, reared at the start. Judys Miss Banks and T H San Man broke together, and Judys Miss Banks quickly went to the front under jockey Larry Payne. They defeated
T H San Man and jockey Juan Vazquez by a length in :17.966 for the 350 yards.
Trainer Diana Hill unveiled Judys Miss Banks
in a maiden event at Remington Park, where the filly won by 2 1/2 lengths. Judys Miss Banks ran second in her trial and final of the Speedhorse Graham Futurity-G1 and second in her OHA Futurity trial to Super Glide Harley.
Jerry Banks of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, bred Judys Miss Banks out of winning Judys Chicklet, who finished third in the 1996 Paint and Appaloosa Speedhorse Sprint. Judys
Chicklet has seven winners from eight starters, includ- ing 2009 OHA Paint and Appaloosa Futurity winner San Mateo Chick and stakes- placed Sheza Fast Chick. Second dam Judys Chick has produced stakes-winning champions Judys Lineage and A Sharper Image, as well as stakes winner Little Sara.
Hill also trains T H San Man-APHA (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Treasured Chick).
Though he has yet to win in five starts, T H San Man has finished second twice.
Getta Dos Of This-APHA (Dos Poruno- Royal Sooner Chick) ran third with Randy Wilson in the irons. Dee Keener trains the colt for owner Crazy Wenches Inc. Getta Dos Of This broke his maiden at Remington and finished second in his Futurity trial.
Completing the field were Hesa Sweet First Down-APHA (Sweet First Down- Emilys Valentine), Super Glide Harley-APHA (Awesome Chrome-Biker Chick), Bells Country-APHA (Country Quick Dash-Bells Special), Awesome Tricketta-APHA (Awesome Chrome-Rebas Daughter), Appocalypto- ApHC (Apollo-TB-Miss Fancy Layne), Mind The Gap-APHA (SF Royal Quick Flash- Rainbow Heart), and Rash For Cash-APHA (SF Royal Quick Flash-Eysa Savvy Queen).
