and the two fought down the track. Winalota Cash won by about a length. Naturally A Winner was third with Fishers Dash taking fourth. The remaining order of finish was Evening Snow, Some Swinger, Six Delights, Cash On Deposit and Winners Dash. Western Heart, the tenth qualifier, was scratched from the race.
Winalota Cash carried jockey Billy Peterson to a time of 21.18 seconds - the fastest time in the history of the race when run at 440 yards. The race was a landmark event for Billy Peterson, as he had ridden in the 1994 All American where his mount Doo Dominate was put down after breaking down. Peterson escaped injury in that

Teller Cartel wins the 2005 All American Futurity
The 2005 All American looked like it
was going to be the year for another Ruidoso Triple Crown winner. Leading Spirit had won both the Ruidoso Futurity-G1 and Rainbow Futurity-G1. But on August 18, Leading Spirit finished out of the money in his All American trial that was won by Make A Secret. Second
in the trial was First Wicked Lady. These two runners were the fastest qualifiers for the finals. When Leading Spirit failed to qualify, it opened the door to a number of potential winners.
The 2005 All American winner Teller Cartel was bred by Charles and Marilyn Cockrill of C/C Stock Farm in Alto, New Mexico. He
was sired by Corona Cartel and out of Jet Along Jamie by Easy Jet. He was purchased as
a yearling by the Teller Cartel Syndicate for $87,000. One of the Syndicate members was Butch Wise, a man we all know through his long time association with the Lazy E Ranch. Another member of the syndicate was the
perennial leading trainer Paul Jones. Jones would train Teller Cartel.
It appears that when Teller Cartel started his race career, he couldn’t buy a win. He started for the first time in a 300-yard maiden race at Los Alamitos. He came in second. His next start was in the Ed Burke Memorial Futurity trials. He came in second, but was disqualified and placed third. His next start was a maiden race at Ruidoso Downs. He finished second.
The All American Futurity trial was the next start for Teller Cartel and this trial qualified four to the finals. Teller Cartel finished third, with Shesnowlady the trial winner and Arealstraitheart finishing second. The other qualifier was fourth place finisher Why So Easy. Shesnowlady was the fourth fastest, while Arealstraitheart, Teller Cartel and Why So Easy were the eighth, ninth and tenth fastest qualifiers respectively.
Teller Cartel earned his start in the All American, but he was still a non-winner in four
race. He reported to the press after winning the 1995 All American that, “When I crossed the finish line, it was like waking up from a dream.”
Winalota Cash would go on after the
All American to win the 1995 Texas Classic Futurity-G1. His stakes wins in the All American and the Texas Classic and good showing through the year gave Winalota Cash AQHA World Champion honors. He also earned the tiles of the Champion Two Year Old and Champion Two-Year-Old Gelding.
Winalota Cash would continue his winning ways at the age of three with four stakes wins, including the All American Derby-G1. His wins
in 1996 would earn him the title of Champion Three-Year-Old Gelding. He came back in 1997 to win four more stakes, including the Go Man Go Handicap-G1. He would win 19 of his
31 starts with 10 stakes wins. He would place second or third in six more stakes. His earnings at the end of his career were $1,921,465.
Winalota Cash would retire with his last race coming in 1997. He was purchased in 2001 by the Friends of Winalota Cash. He then found
a home for the rest of his life with Cindy and Luke Knox of Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was put down in August of 2013 due to complications from old age. He was twenty years old.
The odds didn’t look good for Teller Cartel, the ninth fastest qualifier who had never won a race.
