starts. The odds didn’t look good for the ninth fastest qualifier who had never won a race. The favorite going into the race was Jess A Classy Lad. He was the fourth fastest qualifier.
The weather often becomes a factor, and the 2005 All American had its weather. The track
for the race was listed as muddy. When the gates opened, Arealstraitheart and Teller Cartel broke
on top from gates four and five. Arealstraitheart took the lead, with Teller Cartel right beside her. When they came to the wire, Teller Cartel had won with Arealstraitheart second, Brandis Por Cayenne third, and Make A Secret fourth. The rest came across the finish line in the following order: Shesnowlady, Firestorm Perry, Why So Easy, Jess A Classy Lad, First Wicked Lady and Vodka On Ice. Teller Cartel would leave Ruidoso on a mission back to Los Alamitos Race Course. He would have his next start in the trials of the Golden State Million Futurity-G1. He would win his trial, with Jumpin Chic and Higher Fire finishing second and third respectively. Higher Fire would turn the tables in the finals by winning the Golden State, with Teller Cartel finishing third behind Wave Carver in second.
Teller Cartel and Higher Fire would go at it again in the trials of the Los Alamitos Million Futurity-G1. Teller Cartel would win again, with Higher Fire running second. The finals of the Los Alamitos Million is where the dual would end, with Value The Man winning the finals. Higher Fire came in second and Teller Cartel was sixth.

The bid of Leading Spirit to be a Ruidoso Downs Triple Crown winner came to an end with his fifth in his trial. He was pulled off the track for surgery to remove several chips. He was never able to regain his Triple Crown level of performance. He was retired in 2008 due to an injury he got while winning the California Challenge Championship-G2. His trainer was Paul Jones for that race.
Teller Cartel would end the year with the title of the AQHA Champion Two-Year-Old Colt. He would retire to start his breeding career. He is the sire of foals that have won $8,507,877, with 312 ROM, 20 stakes winners and 24 stakes placed runners. His leading money earner to date is Llano Teller ($1,7659,917) with wins in the All American Derby-G1 and the Ruidoso Derby-G1.
