Lil Bit Rusty’s dam Rusty Rockette.
Lil Bit Rusty.
Jet, the broodmare sire of such horses as Runaway Winner and Crystalinas. Runaway Winner is the sire of such horses as Champion Deceptively. Crystalinas is the dam of several noted runners including multiple Grade 1 win- ner Azoom. Thus the pedigree ingredients of Depth Charge and Be Sure are good influences on the female side of the pedigree as indicated by these examples. Runaway Winner and Crystalinas are both 4x5x5 linebred to Depth Charge being sired by *Beduino and out of Miss Fast Chic, who is double bred to Depth Charge.
When we review how Lil Bit Rusty became a blue hen mare we see several factors. First, she was a very good consistent race mare, showing the speed and soundness needed to compete on the highest level. Second, she has the pedi-
gree ingredients that give her the potential to be a successful producer. Her sire and dam were both runners that were backed by good pedigrees. When you have pedigree ingredients like Easy Jet (sire of Easily Smashed), Rocket Wrangler, Be Sure Now and Depth Charge, you have the potential to be great if you can
get them in the right order. Third, Lil Bit Rusty has shown an affinity to cross on the top bloodlines through sires like Dash For Cash, First Down Dash, Chicks Beduino and Corona Cartel. The part that stands out is her success with the blood of Chicks Beduino. When
we put it all together, it makes Lil Bit Rusty
a modern version of a blue hen mare with a legacy that will now live on in the history of the American Quarter Running Horse.
Rockette is the dam of Eye Am Smashing, by Mr Eye Opener. Eye Am Smashing is the dam of LB Chiripa Cash, stakes placed in the Derby Subasta Selecta in Mexico.
The second dam of Lil Bit Rusty is the Thoroughbred mare Call Her Anything. She raced 17 times on recognized Thoroughbred tracks, finishing third once and earning just $489 for all those starts. The AQHA records on this mare show that she was unplaced in two starts with Quarter Horses and has a 53 speed index. Call Her Anything is the dam of nine foals with seven starters, five ROM with one stakes winner. Her best runner was, of course, Rusty Rockette. When you see the race record and produce record on this mare you have to wonder how this all came about. We find many times the race record and produce record of
the mare is not important as long as she can bring something into the mix. Well, Call Her Anything has a pedigree that a Quarter Horse breeder who likes to use Thoroughbred blood would like to have in his program.
Call Her Anything is by Past Due. Past Due is sired by Be Sure Now, a son of War Admiral, by Man O’War. Be Sure Now is a stakes-placed runner who was bred on the Idle Hour Stock Farm, which was home to such famous stallions as Black Toney, a horse that Be Sure Now car- ries in his pedigree. Be Sure Now can be found in the pedigrees of such famous horses as the World Champion Truckle Feature and 1977 All American Futurity winner Hot Idea.
An interesting observation is that Be Sure
Now is the sire of a Thoroughbred mare named Steamed Up, who is an AQHA Dam of Distinction. She produced 13 foals and 11 starters that won $338,157. Her stakes winners are Whataway To Go (1969 AQHA Racing Champion 2-Year-Old Filly), Steam To Go, (1964 AQHA Racing Champion 2-Year-Old Filly) and Music Note.
Call Her Anything is out of Submersion, by Depth Charge, a name that is very common in the modern pedigree. Depth Charge is a son
of Kentucky Derby winner Bold Venture and out of Quickly, a speed-type Thoroughbred mare. Quickly is also the dam of Count Fleet, a Triple Crown winner of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. Count Fleet is the broodmare sire of Azure
Te, a famous Thoroughbred contributor to the Quarter Running Horse.
Here is another interesting observation: Depth Charge is a great influence on the rac- ing Quarter Horse pedigree, showing up in many of our Champions. But another good Thoroughbred mare that has had an influence on modern Quarter Horse racing is Clampitt, and she is sired by Depth Charge. Clampitt is the dam of Miss Breeze Bar, by Breeze Bar. Miss Breeze Bar is the dam of Missy Te. Missy Te is the dam of Rita Seis, by Azure Te. This makes Missy Te double bred to Quickly through her sons Count Fleet and Depth Charge. Rita Seis is the successful producer of such noted horses as World Champion See Me Do It.
Miss Breeze Bar is also the dam of Fast
