KEY PEDIGREE INGREDIENTS
What makes a mare a blue hen? Well that is the question we can’t give a definitive answer to at this point. But we can review some factors about Lil Bit Rusty as a blue hen mare. Her pedigree is an interesting factor in this review. She was sired by one of Easy Jet’s fastest sons, Champion Easily Smashed. Easily Smashed sired runners that earned $9,313,437 with
793 ROM and 63 stakes winners. His stakes winners include Invisible Injun who won the Texas Classic Derby-G1 in a track record time of :21.350. His leading money earner is Chrises Smash, winner of $276,529. Easily Smashed
is the No. 13 leading sire of winners with 720 winners.
Easily Smashed is the broodmare sire of
the winners of $16,337,632. This includes 69 stakes winners and 788 ROM. His leading money winner from this group is Lil Bit Rusty’s son Whosleavingwho. An added note— Whosleavingwho is also Chicks Beduino’s leading money winner through 2012.
When we look at the nicking patterns of the Easily Smashed daughters on various stallions we can make some interesting observations. When 10 Easily Smashed daughters were crossed on Chicks Beduino they produced
19 foals, 18 starters, 13 winners and 3 stakes winners with total earnings of $1,512,559. Two of the stakes winners—Whosleavingwho and
Beduinos Rusty—were out of Lil Bit Rusty, and they both account for most of the money won on this cross. Equineline.com records show that this is an AEI of 8.30, the highest for any of the runners out of Easily Smashed daughters when crossed with other stallions.
Corona Cartel was bred to seven Easily Smashed daughters. They produced 12 runners and 8 winners with 6 stakes winners. They have won $1,205,122. Lil Bit Rusty produced three Corona Cartel foals. Jet Cartel and My Heart Goes Bang only had one start between them and that was an unplaced finish. But Coronas Leaving You won $278,358. The Corona Cartel/Easily Smashed cross has an AEI of 5.45, and this is the second highest AEI rating on the Easily Smashed daughters. (The young sire Jet Cartel has already been repre- sented by stakes winners on the racetrack.)
Now let’s look at Rusty Rockette, who pro- duced seven foals, all of which raced, and six ROM. Her only stakes winner is Lil Bit Rusty. Rusty Rockette is the dam of one stakes-placed horse in Putitonya, who was third in the Alamo QHBA Futurity-G3. He earned a modest $3,177 and is sired by Speedy Hemp.
The only other black type to come out of
the Rusty Rockette line comes through a full sister to Lil Bit Rusty named Smashed Rockette. She has a 94 speed index and was a final-
ist in the Heritage Place Derby-G1. Smashed
