In a near repeat of his 5 1⁄2-length triumph in the Herman Jefferson Stakes-G3 on Oct. 13, Im Royal Quick crushed six rivals in the 870-
yard King Rick Rack Stakes at Zia Park on Nov. 18, solidifying his status as the leading 870-yard horse of the Zia Park meet.
The gray 5-year-old gelding, who has fin- ished first or second in six of nine starts at Zia Park, is fast becoming a distance specialist for owners Anna Garcia and Jose
Orquiz and trainer Ramon
Ronquillo. Transitioned
to 870-yard races just this
year, Im Royal Quick has
responded to the stretch out
in distance, winning four of
eight over a route of ground,
including two stakes.
Piloted once again
by Alejandro Medellin, who was aboard for the Herman Jefferson score, Im Royal Quick asserted his
superiority early, clearing the field by two lengths down the backstretch. He length- ened his advantage to three lengths at the head of the lane and rolled uncontested to a 4 1⁄2-length victory over a track listed as good (sealed). He stopped the timer in :45.155 and earned a speed index of 94 as the odds-on favorite. Im Royal Quick now boasts lifetime earnings of $155,370.
Bred in California by Manuel Carmona Jr., Im Royal Quick is produced from the Merridoc mare Im Brendas Baby, who earned more than $60,000 in her rac- ing career in winning nine of 21 starts. All four of her foals are starters, including winner Im Corralitos Baby.
King Rick Rack runner- up D E Wagons Strawfly circled rivals five wide around the turn and closed strongly
in the center of the track to prove best of the rest in his first stakes appearance. Ridden
by Dusty Shepherd, D E Wagons Strawfly (Genuine Strawfly-Wagons Maiden) is owned and trained by Tony Sedillo.
Brookstone Flash and jockey Casey Lambert finished third after bumping at the break and steadying in the run to the far turn. A homebred for Jay and Mary Lou Standefer, Brookstone Flash (Brookstone Bay-Flashy Heifer) is trained by Jackie Riddle. He was second in the 440-yard New Mexico Classic Derby-RG2 last year.
Rounding out the field behind the top three were KC Royal Flash (Sixes Royal-Willie May Dash), Kokopellis Babycakes (Mr Houston-Ms Kokopelli), Git Er Done (Holland Ease-Queen of Everything), and Tango Blue (Favorite Trick- TB-Oodles of Cash).

new Mexico Fillies And Mares Championship-rG1
CALL Me A BLAZn CHIC
by John Moorehouse
Competing for the first time against older horses, Call Me A Blazn Chic held her own—and then some. The 3-year-old filly
held off Wonwabbitwon to prevail in the $149,960 New Mexico Fillies And Mares Championship held Nov. 24 at Zia Park.
A Jaime Dominguez trainee, Call Me A Blazn Chic led at every call of the 400-yard event. The filly broke on top from the inside starting position and rode
the rail all the way to the
finish line, getting there first
by a neck to notch her third
straight win.
Esgar Ramirez was aboard as Call Me A Blazn Chic completed the race in :19.704, earning $89,700 to push the filly’s lifetime bank- roll to $536,875 in 14 outs.

for Call Me A Blazn Chic since she made her competitive debut last March. Four of the filly’s six victories have come in stakes company. She’s also posted two runner-up finishes in stakes races.
All four of Call Me A Blazn Chic’s stakes wins have come in graded races. Past con- quests include last year’s runnings of the
Zia Futurity-RG1 and New Mexico Classic
Futurity-RG2. The filly also won the Pelican Stakes-RG3 earlier this year at The Downs at Albuquerque.
Willie Call Me, the dam of Call Me A Blazn Chic, logged five stakes wins, three of them graded, with almost $125,000 in earnings.
Mike Abraham bred Call Me A Blazn Chic, one of two stakes winners out of her dam. The other is Makin Willies, who won the 2006
Manuel Lujan Stakes-RG3. Three other of Willie Call Me’s foals are stakes-placed.
Wonwabbitwon (Rabbits Rainbow-Win Comes Easy), a 10-1 longshot, finished a close second for owner Sierra Dawn Moseley and trainer Ramon Marquez. Alejandro Medellin was up. Edilberto Estrada’s Little Bit Southern (Southern Corona-Averys Little Bit) placed third. The Miguel Castillo trainee had L. Martinez aboard.
The remaining order of finish was Gotloveifyouwantit (Genuine Strawfly-Sinn Bug Special), Asian Brook (Brookstone Bay-RR Miss Saigon), Deceptive Practice (Jesse James Jr-Tricky N Deceptive TB), Snow Regard (Chicks Regard- Sha Hooy Hooy), BJ Bring It On (Genuine Strawfly-No Billi Jo) and Angelina Fame (Furyofthewind-Flame Ta Fame). Wish You Had One To was scratched.
