there’s been a fair share of symmetry to Dashaway Eagle’s 2-year-old campaign. After winning a futurity at Turf Paradise in the second out of her career, Dashaway Eagle capped her season with another futurity win at the same track on Dec. 9, taking first place in the $52,772 AQRA Turf Paradise Futurity.
Dashaway Eagle’s other stakes win came April 27, in the AQRA President’s Open Spring Futurity. Heading
into this race, the Ramon
Fontes Jr. trainee posted
the fastest qualifying time in futurity trials, clocking
a :19.978, and although her :20.143 effort in the stakes final was not as quick it was more than enough to win.
Dashaway Eagle made a strong break from the No. 5 gate underneath Rodolfo Arvizu, just behind early leader PC, then grabbed the
lead by a head in mid-stretch. The filly sepa- rated herself during the final yards to win by three-quarters of a length.
Dashaway Eagle has finished in the
money in each of her six outs to date with four wins to her credit. This stakes win brought home a career-high $26,386 payday for owner Alejandro Uriel Martinez that increased her lifetime bankroll to $51,569.
Muller Racing LLC bred Dashaway Eagle out of Oh Dashaway, a 1994 mare with 12 starters from 18 foals.
Her five winners include two stakes winners—Dashaway Eagle and Bad Act, a 2002 gelding who posted three vic- tories in stakes companies as part of a 16-23-7 record in 70 starts that reaped more than $267,000 in prize money.
Tahma Hawk Chop (Swingin Jess-Tahma Hawk)
finished second for LEMA Racing Stables. Sergio Garcia is the trainer and David Reyes-Frisby
the jockey. Tahma Hawk Chop also ran second
to Dashaway Eagle in the AQRA President’s Open Spring Futurity, and was a finalist in the PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity-G2 at Los Alamitos.
PC (Feature Mr Jess-Ladys Heart Of Gold) hit the board in third. The gelding is owned by Y/N Horse Stables LLC and trained by Omar Lorta. Porfirio Cano did the riding.
The remaining order of finish was Black Storm Regard (Chicks Regard-Miss Quick Houston), Cuz I Say So (First Down Dash-La Michoacana), Quick To Boogie (Royal Blue Chew Chew-Shakin Ana Dashin), Ianna (Brimmerton-El Streaker), Dutch Opener (Mr Eye Opener-Holland Time), Corona Cartel To (Corona Cartel-Luci O Toole) and BV No Holding Back (Teller Cartel-Snodice).

on paper, Block N Tackle towered over his nine rivals in the AQRA Turf Paradise Open Derby on Dec. 1. On the racetrack, the
3-year-old son of Tac It Like A Man ran like a 7-10 favorite should, cruising to a 1 1/4-length victory in the $38,950 fixture at Turf Paradise.
With Jorge Bourdieu in the irons, Block N Tackle, the fastest qualifier for the Derby, pressed the early pace before taking command and draw- ing clear late to remain perfect
in six starts at Turf Paradise.
The sorrel gelding covered 400
yards in :19.803.
Bred in Arizona by his trainer, Matthew Fales, Block N tackle races for Matthew’s parents Ralph and Carolyn Fales. Block N Tackle has now won nine of 13 career starts and has never finished worse than third in his career. The $19,475 winner’s share of the purse elevated
his bankroll to $171,502. It was the second stakes win of the year for Block N Tackle and fourth overall. He also annexed this year’s Rocky Mountain Derby at Arapahoe Park and captured a pair of Turf Paradise stakes in 2011—the Desert Classic Futurity-RG3 and the AQRA Turf Paradise Futurity. In addition to his stakes scores, he finished second in this year’s Mile High Derby and third in last year’s
Mile High Futurity-G3, both at Arapahoe Park.
Block N Tackle is produced from the stakes- winning Takin On The Cash mare Watchin The Rain. Winner of the AQRA Lassie Stakes in 2002, Watchin
the Rain has also foaled Jesswatchme who won this year’s Fort Erie Distance Challenge Stakes, stakes- placed Party Crashin and the winner Watch Me Party.
Chasing Block N Tackle to the wire was runner-up Famous Photo and jockey David Reyes-Frisby. The second choice in the wager- ing, Famous Photo (Famous Lane-Quick To De Photo TB) races in the colors of Amado De La Riva and is conditioned by Sergio Garcia. Pacesetter Bringin It On (FDD Dynasty- Already In Love) shot to the early lead and held third in a game try under jockey Joe Ruiz for the connections of the winner.
Completing the order of finish behind
the top three were Featuresonora (Feature Mr Jess-Corona Blurr), Three Wagons (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Royal Blue Heart), BV Fly First Class (Fly Jess Fly-Eyesa First), Jump the Creek (Jumpn-Rock the Creek), Sea Panther Run (Panther Mountain-Yacht Sea), Yaya Chick Bgone (Chicks Regard-Available Pie), and Lady Left (Zoomin For Bux-Expectancy).
