Streakin Dash Dies
Streakin Dash si 98 (Streakin Six-Got
Alot Going, Dash For Cash) died at the age
of 29 of an apparent heart attack on Nov. 22
at Maui Farms in Purcell, Oklahoma. The 1983 stallion, who had been owned by Vicki Coldiron since 1998, won the Grade 2 Ed Burke Memorial Futurity, was second in the El Primero Del Ano Derby-G1 and Los Alamitos Derby-G3, third in the Laddie Handicap, and was a finalist in the Dash For Cash Derby-G1, Bay Meadows Futurity-G1, Golden State Derby-G1 and Los Alamitos Invitational Championship-G1. From 14 crops, Streakin Dash is the sire of nearly $2.5 million, includ- ing top earner Short Dash ($158,894).

of $39,558. Juan Sanguino led the Quarter Horse trainer standings with 20 wins, while Luis Torres was the leading Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred jockey with 109 total wins.
Oregon Horse Racing Industry Impact Study
A study by ECONorthwest, “Portland Meadows, County Fair Meets and the Horse Racing Industry in Oregon, Impacts on Rural and Urban Economies in 2010,” is available to download on the Portland Meadows website at portlandmeadows.com. The study shows the horse racing industry contributed over $202.6 million to the state’s economy, $38.3 million in labor income, and created 1,167 jobs in 2010.
Turf Paradise Cancels Weekend Racing
Turf Paradise cancelled races on Dec. 14-16 due to poor track conditions following heavy rains. Cancelled races included the Turf Paradise Championship and the Margie Bryan ASOA Futurity. As of press time, track officials have not announced when the races will be rescheduled.
Simulcast Facility Opens In Amarillo
On Dec. 14, the Saddle Brook Jockey Club simulcast facility opened in Amarillo, Texas, representing a first step toward the opening of Saddle Brook Park racetrack. The Texas Racing Commission approved operation of the facility for up to two years before opening the racetrack, with a portion of the money wagered at the facil- ity going toward purses at other state tracks. The Saddle Brook Jockey Club, which is owned by brothers Drew and Lynn Alexander, was granted two mixed race days on Oct. 24-25, 2014.
Remington Park Rules On Rylees Boy
On Oct. 31, Remington Park stewards disqualified Rylees Boy (Heza Motor Scooter- Pipistrelle, Rocky Jones) from his victory
in the 2011 1 Remington Park Invitational Championship-G1 for a positive drug test
for the Class 2 drug fluphenazine, a long- acting tranquilizer. The original hearing on
the case was scheduled for Sept. 21, 2011, but was rescheduled nine times. Rylees Boy, the Champion Aged Gelding of 2011, was owned and trained by Gerardo Ochoa-Pena at the time of the race. Ochoa-Pena received a one-year suspension and was fined $2,500. The case is currently under appeal, so Rylees Boy’s official earnings, race record and awards as recorded by the American Quarter Horse Association will not be changed until a final decision is made.
If the decision is upheld, Louisiana Senator would be moved into first place in the 2011 Remington Park Invitational Championship, with Streakin Down placed second and Freaky placed third.

Jumpn Dies
Jumpn si 98 (Chicks Beduino-Imjumpn, First Down Dash) died from complications of colic surgery on Nov. 24. The 10-year-old stal- lion was owned by Chad Hart and Bobby Cox, and was standing at Hart Farms in Kaplan, Louisiana. Named the California Hi-Point 3-Year-Old Colt, Jumpn won the Grade 3 Los Alamitos Million Juvenile Invitational, finished second in the Kindergarten Futurity-G1
and Golden State Derby-G1, third in the PCQHRA Breeders’ Derby-G2, and was a finalist in the Ed Burke Memorial Futurity-G1, Los Alamitos Super Derby-G1, Governor’s Cup Derby-RG1, Southern California Derby-G1 and Town Policy Handicap-G3 at Los Alamitos. From just four crops to race, Jumpn is a multiple stakes sire of nearly $1.5 million, including top earner multiple graded stakes placed BPS Jumpin Frisco (2012, $351,991).

Portland Meadows Ends Inaugural Summer/Fall Meet
Portland Meadows in Oregon ended their successful inaugural 60-day Summer/Fall Mixed Meet on Dec. 9. General Manager William Alempijevic stated: “The goal of the change in our racing schedule was to rejuvenate peoples’ interest in horse racing.” A total of $2,373,500
