Party Girl Stakes
LA MOS CHINGONO
by Tracy Gantz
Oscar Rohne successfully bid $15,000
to buy La Mos Chingono at the 2008 Heritage Place yearling sale. Like all buyers, he
hoped he had selected a runner. Little did he know that five years later his mare would still be winning stakes and collecting paychecks. That $15,000 investment has now yielded $268,470.
La Mos Chingono’s most recent victory came in the Feb. 2 Party Girl
Stakes at Louisiana Downs.
She was winning the stakes
for the second consecutive time. For the 2013 edition, she was the 3-1 third choice behind favored Game Patriots Delux, who was coming off two consecutive victories.
When the gate opened, La Mos Chingono stumbled slightly from the 4-hole, as Time Of Love flew to the lead ahead of Game Patriots Delux. With regular rider
John Hamilton aboard, La Mos Chingono recovered almost immediately and challenged Game Patriots Delux, collaring the favorite about 10 strides from the wire. She then took on Time Of Love, grabbing victory at the wire by a neck in :17.701 for the 350 yards.
La Mos Chingono did not start racing until her 3-year-old season in 2010, when she won
the Who Dat Derby. In 2012, she added her first Party Girl plus the Audubon Stakes and the second division of the Billy Montgomery Stakes. She has also placed in six other stakes. Kenneth Roberts Sr. trains her.
Robicheaux Ranch Inc. bred La Mos Chingono. The dam, Rita Regent, only started twice, but she is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Streakin Victory and stakes winner Cash This Runner,
who in turn produced Champion Panther Mountain. Rita Regent has produced three winners from four starters.
Jorge Meraz’s homebred Time Of Love (Bigtime Favorite-Shesa Hot Memory) saved second by a neck under jockey David Alvarez. Bobby Martinez trains the 4-year-old filly, who has won three of 11 races.
Jesse Chavis piloted Jessalittlecourage (Jess Louisiana Blue-Faith And Courage) to third for owner Joseph Landreneau and trainer Kelli Smith. Second in La Mos Chingono’s Billy Montgomery, the 4-year-old filly won the 2011 Louisiana Lassie Futurity-RG2.
Completing the field were Game Patriots Delux (Game Patriot-Delux Is Streaking), Unquestionable (Oak Tree Special-Real Or Imagined), and On Paw Paws Dime (Heza Fast Dash-Sayin Together).

Magnolia Stakes
WORLDS ON HIGH
By Tracy Gantz
Worlds On High has always paid the bills. Owner Kris Locklear claimed the geld- ing for $10,000 at Delta Downs in mid-2010, and in his very next start, Worlds On High won and earned $24,000. He kept clicking along every year earning his keep, and in his second 2013 start, he joined the ranks of stakes winners by capturing the Magnolia Stakes for Louisiana-breds.
The Magnolia marked Worlds On High’s third attempt at 870 yards, fol- lowing two third places. The gelding drew post seven, but regular rider Alfonso Lujan moved him in closer immedi- ately after the start and they quickly took the lead heading into the turn. On the inside, Tachas Got Game could
only stay with Worlds On High for a couple of strides. After he put away that rival,
Worlds On High in the stretch repelled the closing favorite, Mr Fallen Angel, to win by a head in :45.944.
Worlds On High has now won nine of 39 races and earned $171,623, a large part of that since Locklear claimed him. Vann Haywood trains the 7-year-old gelding.
Don Ming bred Worlds On High from Sissyisonahigh, who ran second in the
1990 Sassy Senorita Stakes and third in that year’s Canterbury Park Derby. The mare has produced seven winners from eight starters, including stakes-placed High On Holme, who also earned money as a barrel racer.
Randy Herbert trains second-place Mr Fallen Angel (Oak Tree Special-Angels Quick Dash), for his wife Kellie. Antonio Alberto rode the 4-year-old gelding in the
Magnolia. Mr Fallen Angel won the 2012 Au Revoir Stakes, the unique Quarter Horse race on the turf at Evangeline Downs. He also fin- ished third in this year’s Marathon Stakes. Henry Padgett owns and trains Slinkys Fortune (Dashs Slinky-Chasing A Fortune), who finished third with Gilbert Ortiz in the saddle. The 9-year-old gelding won the 2011 Au Revoir and last year’s Magnolia. He fin- ished third in the 2012 Au Revoir and second in the 2013 Marathon.
Completing the field were Dr Drip (First To Shine-High Seas Operator), Panther Warrior (Panther Mountain-This Girl A Warrior), Heza Fast Corridor (Heza Fast Dash-Classic Corridor-TB), Direct Zach Attack (Direct Hit-TB-LP Rainbow Rose), and Tachas Got Game (Game Patriot-Tacha La Jolla).
