Inaugural Classic Division 1
SPECIAL EXTERIOR

At the start of Division 1, the grey Zoomin Winner shot out like a bullet from gate two, which allowed him an immediate early lead, along with Gols Ja Red Man, who were soon joined after by Special Exterior to form
a trio that went down the left side of the track near the inner rail.
At the other extreme of the starting gate, Holland Sure, the only Mexican among the eight participants, was in trouble as he broke out late and shot toward the right fringe of the track. The rookie Fanatic For Speed dashed toward the front and immediately ran into interference from Wheres Harry, but with sheer strength and speed he tried to close ground on Special Exterior, who was in the lead and who was gradually beginning to
dominate the contest.
The photo finish at the
end of 350 yards favored
Special Exterior by a nose,
the bay filly from Veracruz,
who stopped the clock in
:17.43 for an 88 speed index.
The total purse was 268,500
pesos ($20,653 U.S.), with
161,100 pesos ($12,392 U.S.) going to Special Exterior.
In the winner›s circle, , the winning jockey Eddi Cuellar commented that at the break the filly was standing incorrectly and that made her seem like she was at a disadvantage, and she had to accelerate faster.
