Mighty Deck Three Handicap
FAST PRIZE JORDAN
by John Moorehouse
Fast Prize Jordan kicked off his 2013 cam- paign in resounding fashion. The four-year- old colt led at every call to win the $55,000
Mighty Deck Three Handicap on March 10 at Remington Park.
Fast Prize Jordan, who is owned by Weetona Stanley and W. E. Smith, logged his fifth win in 10 lifetime starts and his first in almost 18 months. Fast Prize Jordan’s
most recent victory came
on Oct. 22, 2011 in a trial
for that year’s version of the
Texas Classic Futurity-G1.
Fast Prize Jordan competed in
two futurities, both of them
graded, but his sophomore
campaign of competition was
restricted to two outs—and
this marked his first start
since Sept. 14 of last year.
The approximate six- month layoff didn’t leave him with any apparent rust in
the Mighty Deck Three Handicap. Fast Prize Jordan broke on top from the No. 3 gate, led by a head going into the stretch and widened the gap during the final yards, reaching the finish line sporting a 3/4-length margin of victory.
Trainer Brian Muse prepped Fast Prize Jordan, who completed the 250-yard trip in
among the six competitors out of their dam. Finche, who won the 2011 Mighty Deck
Three, finished second this time for owners Larry Abney and Chris Sheehy. Abney also trains Finche (Tres Seis-Doctor Prospector), who had jockey Debbie Freeman in the irons. Cruzin The Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Penelope Cruzin) finished a nose behind to hit the board third for owners Terry and Mary Louise Pursel, trianer Brent Clay and rider Stormy Smith.
Following were Wagons West (PYC
Paint Your Wagon-De Elegant Dash), Senor Fish (Fishers Dash-First Place Affair), WR Dialuppappa (Pappasito-Easy Dashin Dial), Thru The Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Algonquin), Binky Beduino (Sweet First Down-Alamitos Dasher), WR Dashin On My Mind (SC Chiseled In Stone-Dash On My Mind) and Oh Spit N Run (Spit Curl Jess-Oh Bunny Oh).
:12.919 for a 103
speed index under jockey G. R. Carter Jr. The $32,230 payday improved Fast Prize Jordan’s career bankroll to $137, 291.
Stanley home-bred Fast Prize Doll, the dam of Fast Prize Jordan. The 2005 mare
is stakes-placed, finishing
third in the 2007 Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity-G2 at Louisiana Downs. Fast Prize Doll has foaled 16 offspring, six of whom are starters. Fast Prize Jordan becomes the first mem- ber of the brood to log a stakes win, and is one of five winners

The $52,500 Eastex Handicap-G2, named
in honor of the 1984 All American Futurity-G1 winner and champion, tradi- tionally marks the opening weekend of the Remington Park season. This year’s renewal on March 10 went to Fast Prize Mike.
Piloted by G.R. Carter, Fast Prize Mike broke away from the inside post in fourth posi- tion but quickly charged to the front to contest for the lead in the 350-yard
feature.
In a driving finish, Fast Prize Mike prevailed by
a neck over a fast-closing Eufaula Me and jockey Stormy Smith.
The winner stopped the timer in :17.276, earning a speed index of 98. It was the second stakes victory for Fast Prize Mike, who captured the Evangeline Downs Derby last November and also
finished second in the 2012 Dash for Cash Derby-G2 at Lone Star Park.
In winning for the fourth time from 13 starts, Fast Prize Mike now boasts career earn- ings of $134,615 after depositing the $32,284 winner’s share of the Eastex Handicap purse.
Owned by Evelio Salazar and conditioned by Steven Salazar, Fast Prize Mike was bred in Oklahoma by Weetona Stanley.
Fast Prize Mike is pro- duced from the Heza Fast Man mare Fast Mans Prize. In addition to Fast Prize Mike, the mare has also foaled graded stakes-placed One Fast Wagon and stakes- placed Prize Jive.
Runner-up Eufaula Me (Okey Dokey Dale-Yawls Spreadn Rumors) was making his first start since winning the Polk County Derby at Prairie Meadows
last October. The consistent gelding is owned by John Lawless and trained by Brent Clay. Kool Country Man, with Rodrigo Vallejo in the irons, finished third for Jose Socorro Vera Jr. Trainer Jonathan Castaneda saddled Kool Country Man (Country Chicks Man-First Kool Baby).
Completing the order of finish behind the top three were A Toss Up (Sweet First Down-Shake Cartel), Teller More Bourbon (Teller Cartel-Bourbonstreetchick), Mr Taka B (Feature Mr Jess-Taka Puna), First Klas Fred (Fredricksburg-She Flies First Klas), winner of the 2009 Ruidoso Futurity-G1
and a champion 2-year-old, Katillac Man (Country Chicks Man-Kitty Kat Dash) and Zoomandkicken (Azoom-Kicken West). Honor Me Good (With Honors-Miss Casady Lady) was scratched by the stewards.
