Mr Jess Perry Louisiana Downs Stakes-RG3
POLITICAL OPTION
by Danny Camp
Ten horses went to the post at Louisiana Downs on March 2, trying to line their pock- ets with their share of the $35,000 purse in the Mr Jess Perry Louisiana Downs Stakes-RG3. Political Option showed class and experience, and was the best on this day, covering the 350- yards in :17.495 for a speed index of 101.
A nice day and a fast track made for a race that was determined in the
last 50-yards. Every contes-
tant had over $74,000 to their
credit, with Jls Mr Bigtime topping the list at $957,000.
When the gate opened, 4-year-old gelding Political Option (Jess Louisiana Blue-In His Dreams, Apollo TB), had room to run and was equal
to the task as he broke on top from the two-hole. Lil Jess Oak, in the three slot broke slightly out, and Haystretcher on the rail broke in just a bit.
With Political Option out on top, then los- ing the lead to Haystretcher halfway down the track, the outcome was in doubt. With a steady right hand whip, not punishing but encourag- ing, John Hamilton waited for Political Option to get his stride and speed. The gelding regained the lead and was a head in front 50-yards from the wire, holding on for a nose win.
Bred by J. E. Jumonville, Jr., Political Option is owned by Carlos S. Loxano and trained Kenneth Roberts, Sr. The race was the gelding’s first stakes win, and the $21,000 winner’s share takes his bank to $211,880 with a record of 18-4(1)-5(2)-6(1), with seconds in the LQHBA Futurity-RG1 and Louisiana Champions Day Derby-RG3, and a third in the LQHBA Sale Futurity-RG1.
Political Option is out of multiple stakes-placed winner
In His Dreams, dam of stakes winners Sizzlin Cartel ($233,446, Ntr) and Louisiana Blue Dream ($102,332).
In second was Haystretcher (Heza Fast Dash-Sayin Together) owned by Brandon Haywood, trained by Vann Haywood and ridden by Alfonso Lujan. In third was Martini Mountain (Panther Mountain-Glitz Gato) owned by James R. Mitchell, trained by Paul Rigdon, ridden by Danny Lavergne.
The remaining order was then A Solid Dash (Dashin Bye-A Solid Score), Intriguing Jess Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Call Me Intriguing), JLS
Mr Bigtime (Bigtime Favorite-Psalmist), Blue Louisiana Jolla (Jess Louisiana Blue-Somekinda Rainey), Heza Gand Ds Dash (Heza Fast Dash- Mary Snow), Lil Jess Oak (Oak Tree Special-Lil Jess Print), Mossy Oak Tree (Oak Tree Special-All Eyes On Madison).
