SICARIO V

Owner Sammy Valeriano of Valeriano Racing Stables and trainer Santos Carrizales Jr. put together a terrific double in
the Rainbow Derby-G1 at Ruidoso Downs
on July 15. Following their collaboration with A Pollitical Candy V in the 2022 Rainbow Derby, Sicario V won it for them again this year. Carrizales added another Rainbow double as the trainer of 2023 Rainbow Futurity-G1 winner Dark NME.
In both editions of the Rainbow Derby, the Valeriano/Carrizales runner faced an odds-on favorite. In 2022, A Pollitical Candy V was
up against K J Desperado, who went on to become the year’s Champion 3 Year Old and Champion 3-Year-Old Gelding. A Pollitical Candy V defeated K J Desperado by a neck.
Sicario V faced a proven Champion in Cyber Attack, the Champion 2-Year-Old Colt of 2022. Cyber Attack had returned this year to capture the Ruidoso Derby-G1. He won his Rainbow Derby trial, giving him a five-race
Sicario V wins the $804,288 Rainbow Derby wire-to-wire by 1 1/2-lengths on July 15 under jockey Francisco Calderon at Ruidoso Downs.
