well,” Kelly said. “That other horse had a big lead, but she finally woke up. We were delighted with her. She’ll be headed back to Los Alamitos now.”
A Dream To Fill did her early racing at two at Los Alamitos, but was unable to win. That has changed considerably as she has matured. In her second start this season at Remington Park while trained by Dee Keener, A Dream To Fill broke her maiden. She followed that with an allowance victory and then ran second by just a neck in the June 3 Junos Request Stakes-G1. The Speedhorse trial was the filly’s first Fair Meadows outing.
Kelly and Yother, who lives in Cave Creek, Arizona, race A Dream To Fill in the name
of Kelly Yother Equine LLC. They base their breeding operation at their Eire Stock Farm
in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Nancy Yearsley bred A Dream To Fill with them in Oklahoma.
Kelly’s development of A Dream To Fill’s family goes back to Three Dee Dreams, A Dream To Fill’s second dam and the dam of Answer The Dream.
“I claimed Three Dee Dreams at Los Alamitos for $8,000, and she went on to be a very good winner herself,” Kelly said. Kelly obtained Three Dee Dreams in her third start in late 1998. With Connie Hall as her trainer, Three Dee Dreams won the 2000 Huntington Beach Handicap at Los Alamitos for Kelly and partners.
“Unfortunately, I had sold Three Dee Dreams before Answer The Dream became a star,” Kelly said. Answer The Dream, trained for most of her
career by Paul Jones, won the 2009 Juno’s Request Stakes-G3 and Oklahoma Distaff Challenge, placed in several Grade 1 stakes, and ultimately earned $264,375. She has produced 23 winners
from 30 starters. Answer The Dream’s winners include 2020 Los Alamitos Oaks-G3 winner Dreams Divine, 2022 Oklahoma Bred Derby-RG2 winner Dreamsville, and two other stakes winners.
Answer The Dream has produced such a wealth of good horses that much of the Kelly Yother Equine consignment to this year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale trace to her. Two are out of Answer The Dream—a colt by Flying Cowboy 123 and a colt by Apollitical Jess—and she is the second dam of nine others. Marty Powers is the agent for the Kelly Yother Equine consignment.
Jose Cervantes’ homebred JC Black Mamba (Ivory James-Fine Clover) was second under jockey Roman Cruz for trainer Waylan Melton. Josh Romero piloted Flyght Song (Moonin The Eagle-Cartel Regards) to third for owner Dana Garcia & trainer Cosme Velasquez. Followed by Rock On (First Moonflash-Kitty D Ville), Kiki Kartel (Coronado Cartel-Mt Rob This Corona), Rubys Night Out (Foose-Reds Gift), Fancy Lash (Im A Fancy PYC-Kiss My Lash), Sassie Savannah (KVN Corona-Waitin On Mindy), and JMG Apollitical Capo (Capo De Capi-Gold Ounce). Chunki Monkey was scratched.
