Javier Rosique Palavicini Classic
JRS CORONAS SHADOW
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
Acompetitive group of eight runners three years and older, all bred in the United States and including only one female, participated in the ninth edition of the race in honor of breeder and horseman Don Javier Rosique Palavicini.
They competed for a prize of $367,300 pesos (approximately $20,859 US) over a distance of 300 yards.
When the race was dispatched, the interference of Hiclass And Grand (#4) and Dancing Perry Doll (#6) on A New Dynasty (#5) was clear. As the rider tried to correct the trajectory of Hiclass And Grand, he hit Player X Three (#3). The race flowed with Dancing Perry Doll, Cartel Sixes and JRS Coronas Shadow disputing the lead, to which was added the aforementioned Hiclass And Grand, who in a hasty closing, hit Cartel Sixes (#1), thus he was disqualified from fourth to sixth place and repositioning Cartel Sixes and Player X Three.
Faced with these setbacks, the experienced JRS Coronas Shadow (#7) moved freely along the right side of the track to seize the classic under the successful command of his jockey Yair Daniel Báez Soto in a respectable :15.04 for an speed index of 94, beating Dancing
Perry Doll by neck difference. The nine-year-old
bay gelding returned to
the winner’s circle after a
prolonged absence since
Feb. 13, 2022, when he won
the Inaugural Classic, after
which he only made two
appearances: one in the Speed
Classic where he finished
second and another in an
open allowance finishing in
third placeon April 30 of the current year.
Miss Karla Rosique, representing her grandfather Mr. Javier Rosique Palavicini, delivered a plaque for the classic, which was received by Rubén Romo García, trainer for Cuadra Los Gavilanes, to which JRS Coronas Shadow belongs.
