Subasta Selecta Derby
KRASH AGUERRIDA
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
With 20 participants, three trial races were run on June 4 to determine
the qualifiers to the Subasta Selecta Derby, reserved for three-year-olds that were presented at the 2021 Select Yearling Auction and that met all the eligibility requirements.
It was the first 400 yard race for all
the participants, and the 10 finalists did a commendable job on the track. In the trials,
it was the filly Sold Black who covered the distance in the shortest time of :19.449, followed by the chestnut filly Day Cartel in :19.547 and the gray filly Chicks Sea Horse in :19.525.
Two weeks later, the odds favored Sold Black and her stablemate DK Dantera, both from Rancho El Suspiro. One DK from Cuadra Baldeli was withdrawn, so only 9 athletes competed.
It was a clean race from start to finish, with all participants running well. Day Cartel started strong, but little by little he lost his position, first to Chicks Sea Horse and then to Krash Aguerrida, who led the way to the finish line in a photo finish with Chicks Sea Horse, and who won by the slightest difference.
The jockey Miguel Ángel Rodríguez drove the winner excellently, to reach the 400 yards in
:19.49 for a speed index of 93, with which he significantly improved the :19.677 seconds of his qualifying race (sixth fastest time) in which he finished third, also directed by Rodriguez himself.
The filly represents
Rancho Porvenir, owned by
Ramón Salvador Domínguez
in partnership with Héctor
Flores Rentería, who joyfully
attended the race and the award ceremony, receiving the corresponding recognition
from Adriana Gómez Barnola, Manager
of the Mexican Breeders Association and Quarter Horse Horsemen, and Mauricio Rodrigo Ayala Rosique, President of the Horse and Greyhound Racing Surveillance and Arbitration Committee.
Krash Aguerrida is a bay filly bred in Chihuahua by Ramón Salvador Domínguez Pérez, who consigned her to the Select Yearling Auction (Lot #166) where she was quoted for $260,000 pesos (approximately $12,484 US), being repurchased to run in
the name of Rancho Porvenir.
With 12 starts, her record
is 4-3-2. Despite the fact
that when she was auctioned, she was eligible for several futurities and derbies and this the first one she participated in, demonstrating her preparation and genetic quality that she carries as the daughter of Krash Cartel and out of the mare
Aguerrida Candorosa, also the dam of the gray filly SF Banko Aguerrido (by SF Royal Bank) who was named the 2010 Mexican Two-Year-Old Champion and AQHA Mexican Champion with earnings of $182,144.
René Gómez Díaz was the trainer responsible for saddling the winner of the Subasta Selecta Derby with a total prize of $1,965,800 pesos (approximately $111,635 US), of which $825,636 pesos (approximately $46,887 US) were added to Krash Aguerrida’s account.
With a strong finish, Chicks Sea Horse (Sea Horse Corona-Chicks Toast) claimed second place ridden by Orlando Fernando
