            strengthen families in Caroline County
            and ensure no child slips through the
            cracks in the system.  Local attorney Walt
            Palmer, recalls seeing her when he was
            touring the Individualized Education
            Program (IEP) at North Caroline High
            School several years ago during an elec-

            tion year.  “The students’ assignment was
            to present campaign speeches to the rest
            of the class.  I looked around and there
            was Master Asparagus. One of those
            students had been in her courtroom and
            had told her about the speeches.”
            Magistrate Asparagus’ community
            leadership and commitment extend far
            beyond her courtroom, serving as an
            active member of both the Talbot County
            NAACP and Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Kappa
            Theta Omega Chapter. She acknowl-
            edges that great progress has been made
            to eradicate racism, sexism and all the
            other “ism’s” but there is much to be
            done. “We’ve dealt with the outward stuff
            like desegregation of schools and insti-
            tutions but now, how do we get people
            to accept each other as human beings?”
            She believes the election and inaugura-
