life, you are able to develop recommendations for the judge to
consider as she makes her decisions about what is truly in that
child’s best interest. Prior to administering the oath on June
2, Judge Price acknowledged the important work of a CASA,
saying “What the attorneys want and what the child wants may
not always jibe. Your opinions and observations as a CASA are
very critical to me and I always need to see that. I truly thank
you for what you are about to take on as a new volunteer”.
The new volunteers had the opportunity to meet the other
volunteers and board members at this year’s Volunteer
Appreciation Luncheon, held on June 2 at the Wharves of
Choptank Visitors Center. Each volunteer was given a keychain
with the “Starfish Story” and a copy of Charlie Applestein’s
book, “There’s No Such Thing as a Bad Kid”. Welcome Jim,
Louise, Pete, Kristina and Rich and thank you to all our
volunteers who work tirelessly to “Change a Child’s Story”!
