74 8 Microsporidia
Treatment
There is no specific and effective drug for microsporidia. Intestinal microsporidiosis
may be treated with albendazole (400 mg orally 3 times/day for 2 weeks or 400 mg
twice/day for 1 month). HIV-infected patients are given anti-retroviral therapy
(ART) to increase the host’s immune status.
Prevention and Control
1. Improved personal hygiene and sanitation
2. Adequate water treatment
3. Initiation of combination ART
