CULTIVATING EDUCATION (Continued)
So, you might be
saying, “I thought
there were sedges
for sun?” There
are! I added
Carex texensis to
a new planting
this summer. Yes,
I planted in the
drought. Carex
texensis is a tough
little cookie. Of
course I watered,
but I had no loss.
They all made it.
I grow Carex
amphibola in
the sun as well.
Planted under a
Carex seedling in flagstone patio
Star Magnolia, it
flaccosperma. As these plants like average-moist soil, I
was not surprised when they struggled this year. What
surprised me were the seedlings that appeared! One
within the cracks of my flagstone patio and one in a
neglected planter (c’mon I know you all have them too
– you get busy in the spring and never got your planters
done in your own garden). The seedlings proved stronger
than my original plantings!
