One hundred years after the ood, the Great Miami River has gone from feared to fabulous. Ohio’s Great Miami River Corridor - from Piqua to Hamilton - promotes a quality of
life that keeps Ohio’s talent in Ohio. It is the focus of private investment, a job generator and tourist destination. The
river corridor, referred to by some as Ohio’s Great Corridor, features a series of vibrant city waterfronts interconnected by land and water trails. Between the cities, the river corridor embraces some of Ohio’s most picturesque and productive farmland and exquisite natural areas.
Local communities view the Great Miami River as a valuable community asset, drawing riverfront investment. A wide variety of festivals and special events line its banks all year long. Tourists, recreationalists and commuters put its trails to good use. Refurbished and innovative housing options create a new neighborhood of urban pioneers. World-class arts and entertainment venues draw diverse visitors from near and far.
Excitement along the Great Miami River keeps growing. With The Miami Conservancy District’s dams and levees in place to prevent ooding, many of these cities are redeveloping the riverfront with technology parks; educational campuses; entertainment districts; and recreation facilities for cycling, kayaking, canoeing, rowing and more.
The Great Miami River Corridor – regional amenities, local treasures.
Above: Levees built and maintained by The Miami Conservancy District make a successful foundation for recreation trails. The Great Miami River Recreation Trail hugs the river from Piqua to Hamilton, winding its way near museums, charming and historic downtowns, and over gently rolling terrain - a perfect match for the runner, skater or cyclist.
