Dayton: Third and Main streets
Below: National Guardsmen and citizens walked along Third Street near Main Street while workers used a steam engine and other equipment to scrape mud from the caked streets. The tall building in the background was the Conover Building, now known as the American Building, designed by Frank Andrews. Mr. Andrews maintained his studio on the top oor of this “skyscraper,” from which he designed most of the buildings at the National Cash Register Company.
