1913 TODAY
Above: The Great Miami River surged out of its banks, inundating many neighborhoods such as McPherson Town, at left. Many ood photographs in 1913 were taken from this hill, long before it became home to the Dayton Art Institute in 1930.
Left: Downtown Dayton – from the roof of the Dayton Art Institute – is a gem of a city on the river. The art institute and the Masonic Center today are Dayton icons that represent the front door of Grafton Hill. Interstate 75, originally built in the early 1960s, cuts
a busy swath across the vistas of both downtown and the Dayton Art Institute.
